Anyone carry TWO?

My lifestyle doesnt typically merit a back up, and if it did I might consider some changes; but back in the day I might have brought along a second gun when I was doing some high(er) risk stuff. That was also before the huge selection of high capacity guns. Today its almost hard to find a single stack handgun.

On the flip side I always carry at least one spare mag, mostly two spare mags; but thats more a holster, mag pouch related issue. I wont leave the house without a reload, its like driving without a spare tyre

I am seriously considering it. Most of the time my EDC is a J-frame, with a speed strip or two for a reload in my pocket. Maybe in the near future I will pick up an exact duplicate of what I carry so I have a second one on me.

Typically carry two firearms. Either two revolvers (a 686+ and Ruger LCR or model 60 and LCR) or a revolver and a semiauto (Hellcat or Kahr K40).
 
I carried a back up (Detonics Combat Master .45) with my issued SIG P220 and spare mags for both, 870 and AR15 in the trunk and at least 100rds of spare ammunition for those because I worked aremote duty station and often alone. I've seen no need to do that since I retired,my back thanks me for it. If someone wants to lug an extra revolver or pistol and ammunition and it'd not illegal, it's their business, not mine anymore.

A reliable 1911 and a spare magazine is now my choice.

My EDC now is my 1911 with two spare mags. It's how I trained for 40 years. When I trained security officers and private investigators for their state license, I trained my students to carry two reloads and the courses of fire required it. Carrying a revolver for duty before the semi auto revolution I carried four speedloaders on my gun belt. Carrying a revolver in plain clothes I had two speedloaders in the pocket of my sportcoat. Carrying less than two spares nowadays would make me twitchy, just because. Old habits die hard.

Thread 'Is TWO guns Too much?'

Whatdaya think? In the past I occasionally carried a tiny Back Up, maybe a 5 shot 38 in a holster on my vest strap, or a small NAA 22 revolver in my shirt pocket. Then I thought maybe a 3rd mag was a better idea. Thankfully I never needed either; but they were comforting.

After I retired I went through a Doc Holliday phase. I carried at least two SAAs, sometimes a third. It was more of a "how cool is this" then need; but it fit with my gamblers vest and mustache. I havent given up on the SAAs but Im in a different "how cool is this" mode. Now Im thinking I want the John Thomas...

The two mags and 50 rounds should hold me over until I get to my little friend here.....
 
I started a reply and kept thinking I had just done this. But that’s how it is with this topic. It’s being discussed on some forum right now, and if things go as usual, a good percentage are shocked or amused by the idea. I don’t get that.

I know people who carry constantly, wouldn’t leave their bedroom without a gun, and even one who had a waterproof box with a “shower gun” in it. But suggest carrying a second gun, and they look at you like you’re an alien.
I don’t get it.

Living in Florida, having a shorter and chunky stature, and wearing jeans and t-shirts with the occasional dress shirt, I really don't have any way of carrying a second firearm. I carry a knife, and that is all I really have a need for and room for. I am 5'5" on a good day and between 155 to 162 ish.

You are reminding me of my old days as a Deputy. There were times when there was only two deputy's for the night shift for the whole county. Our leather we were required bto have at least two dumps but night patrol used 3 dumps. We also carried a BUG in a shoulder holster in which I carried a PPK 32. In my briefcase I had my 1911 with 3 extra mags with a box of 50. Every fire arm we had except the shotgun we bought our selfs. We would tell dispatch when we went into blind areas and sometimes we were out of contact for a extended time. We were butting heads with a not so nice crew. My RDC is my 1911 with 3 extra mags and if I head out of town I carry a BUG. As you stated old habits but us old timers are just that way.🤫
 
After carrying a 1911 for most of my adult life I must admit I've drifted over to the dark side somewhat. I bought a full size M&P 45 from a nice young fella who is a State Trooper. He had an Apex sear in it along with a set of 10-8 Precision sights installed. It came with 6 x 10 rd mags and is so smooth and accurate that it actually makes me smile when I shoot it. Since it's the same size as a Commander but much lighter I've found it tagging along with me more and more. When I do carry it I just have one additional magazine. If 20 rounds of flying ashtrays doesn't take care of the problem...?
