Anyone gone back to steel?

I switched to Glock from M9s and 1911s back in the late 90s and pretty much stuck with polymer for years. It didnt stop me from buying steel guns for hunting and because they were fun; but I only carried Glocks for "Social Work". Then on a whim I picked up an Officer's Model 1911 and that led to two; now Im retired and my lifestyle has changed. A Combat Commander feels "right". Its heavier than the G17 but not when you factor two 17 round mags

I also rotate my carry between Glocks and full-size 1911s. I think I mentioned this in a thread a day or so ago. Because my carry 1911s are blued moly steel, once "sweat season" is upon me, I have to revert back to carrying my Glock. Say what you will about a Glock, but those things are just about impervious to rust and corrosion (I'm speaking of the metal parts, obviously). The only rust I've ever seen on mine emanated from some aftermarket sights that I'd replaced the factory "slot protectors" with. But... I just gotta get me a pair of stainless 1911s... Then the only excuse for my carrying a Glock would have to be, "just because I felt like it." Come to think of it, that's not a bad "excuse" anyway.

Also, as I've also mentioned previously, I switch to the Glocks when working out-of-doors. I tend to bang whatever I'm carrying up against machinery or whatever it is I'm working on or around, and I really hate to subject my 1911s to that abuse.

Hmmmm.... I've never done this, but I might actually try carrying a mixture of a Glock and a 1911 as my brace. But then I'd have to choose between them as to which would be lightning and which would be thunder. ;) Maybe just alternate sides each day.

Use a holster with a sweat shield. I carried my blue 1911 in such a holster for many years and never had rust issues. In Arizona we sweat 10 months out of the year.

I understand what you mean, but it's not the outside contact that's my issue. My problem with a 1911 and my perspiration is that it forms condensation under the grip panels and in other interior nooks and crannies. If I find that I've been sweating a lot while wearing them concealed, I have to remove the panels (and sometimes strip it down even further than a "field strip") and give them a good wipedown and oiling ASAP!

Carried a Glock for work many years ago.

For CC it's usually one, or the other Tisas Commander length 1911s I have, but I also have a pretty sweet Sig P229 Classic Carry with thier short reset trigger.

When I do carry Tupperware, it's my Smith and Wesson M&P M2.0 Compact.

yeah I’ve kinda gone full circle myself, spent years on polymer for the practicality but lately I’ve been gravitating back to steel, there’s just something about the weight and balance that feels right, especially with something like a 1911, sure it’s heavier on paper but in actual carry it doesn’t bother me as much as I expected, and the shooting experience just feels better overall to me

I just looked in the safe and found I have more plastic fantastic than I thought. I must admit that I have carried some on occasion but I rarely leave the property except for VA appointments and church on Sunday. 90% of the time while lounging around here it's a 1911, the other 10% or so it's a Ruger Vaquero in 45 Colt.
