Armed and Armored: Jeeps with Teeth

Hello all, here is today's article posted on TheArmoryLife.com. It is titled “Armed and Armored: Jeeps with Teeth” and can be found at https://www.thearmorylife.com/jeeps-with-teeth/.

Since the 37mm on the jeep didn't fare too well, the TD Board still wanted a mobile AT gun and this is how the M8 armored car got its start. Being outclassed very quickly, it transitioned to the recon role where it performed well if the terrain was not too rugged.

I love this story. I was smiling at all the pictures showing "real time" upgrades and the backyard mechanic ingenuity of forward troops. The "one-of-a-kind custom" armor plates at the front are totally GI-I (GI Ingenuity).

In South Vietnam, the stalwarts saw some success keeping "Chuck and the boys" from totally controlling Highway QL 13, otherwise known as "Thunder Road."

They did a good job but, occasionally, this happened:

My "Delta Ground" unit in 2/17th Cav, 101st Abn. operated the M151A1, A2 & M151A1C with M40 RR. Completely unauthorized we moved two M40's over to M37 3/4 ton "Beeps", which was a better platform all the way around.
Pics from Camp Eagle and FSB Birmingham. I'm shown in an A2 pre-mission in Northern "I" Corps.
