In 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower authorized the formation of the Army Marksmanship Unit, almost exclusively to win shooting competitions that would raise the standards of marksmanship throughout the Army.

Julie Golob spent the Majority of her time in the Army in the AMU.

I was offered a position in that unit if I was to re-enlist in the Army, I did not reenlist, I joined the Air Force.

I believe some were recruited from the professional shooting sports. After basic and AIT they were “assigned” AMU.

I read of a couple from back in the 1990’s when they hade these things Called Magazines.

Not sure if it’s the same now
