Ayoob: Why the "Plain Jane" 1911 is Right for Me

I have 2 1911s both show there age with scratches and some blueing missing here and there. I have aggressive grips so I know they are gripping my hand. I use 200 grain ammo which has done the job since the 50s. One is a Commander and the other is a officers model. I had a full size that I gave to my son but I also have a couple of Springers that I keep around the house and they are old also. As I get closer to judgement day I find the officer's model the best carry for me and the pocket models have found new homes. With old hands they are comfortable and hit where I point and when they talk they are heard.
 
My EDC is a 1911, either a government size or commander. Carry in a Milt Sparks Summer Special 2 or Versa max 2. Gotta love Springfield 1911's, and most of the rest, too. Thanks, Mass...
 
I have 2 1911's currently, one is a Springfield Armory 1911 in 9mm and I absolutely love it. It's a target model with ambi safety (very important for a lefty with a 1911) my other is a Taurus (I've had 2 and both were great) in .45. I've been eying the Prodigy for my next pistol as well as a TRP. Springfield has such a diverse selection of firearms from its 1911's, to the Echelon (which I also own an 4.0c comp and is my go to carry gun over my Glocks and S&W's). I too use to read Col. Cooper's articles in G&A as a kid.
 
Professionally I have carried a 1911 in .45 acp since 1972. Off duty and on duty while working plain cloths. I carry one to this day. I also own a 1911 Springfield in 10 mm. The recoil is comparable to the .454 acp. I have six total. I gave my 24-year-old grandson his first 1911, .45 acp and Browning's .22 LR 1911. I agree 100% with my brother in arms.
 
I had a Colt Officers Stainless many years ago. I shot that firearm a lot. When the factory front site came off I did not panic. I did not have enough money to get the front site fixed. I removed the rear site. Since I did not have any sites to look for I started just pointing and shooting. My point shooting improved massively and I developed muscle memory for point shooting. I then installed a decent aftermarket site. I would never recommend carrying a pistol without sites. But I did stumble across a method for maximizing my point shooting skills.
