BERETTA

looking at possibilities in the 92's and 90two's has been on my list and only 1 option for the 96's (which is fine as i want it in 40s/w) what would be your choice? i almost don't want to buy any as nearly all are 9mils in that brand as so is cz's! i'm really not sure why i want to buy 1 or more! i'll add pics of what i'm looking at.

The 92 is a fine firearm. I have one and been very pleased with it. But remember, it was designed to be a service weapon carried OWB on a duty belt. Its big for a 9mm.
Every 96 I ever came across was junk. Bigger, bulkier and trouble some. There's a reason they didn't sell well and have very poor resale value.

I kinda dig the camo…the second one.

Can you still put a curved back strap on it to get the original 92 grip? Not a fan of the straight…
the straight is supposed to be a 1911 style (vertex iirc) and not a fan of that either. going thru their site i believe you can get the curved style and swap grips. i'm more of a finger groove grip fan, but unclear if the hogue will fit a variety of models as it shows on the brigadier

personally, for me, if a gun was designed then built in the very beginning as a particular caliber, that's the way it should stay..haven't we all read about "some" problems of 1911's in another caliber such as the 9mm..??

for me as i have said more than once, i have 2...92 SF's, one in black made in Italy, and the other in satin, made in the USA....both are indeed large and should be worn OWB, if one chooses to carry.
I’m not sure if I can dig beretta. I haven’t shot one but heard the stories from friends. If I was going to get fancy then I’ll go CZ.
well, as i don't know what anyone of few of them said, let alone just one guy, i have absolutely no issues with mine..

they are heavy (maybe close to a CZ in weight), they are accurate, and found mine to be dependable)

maybe they are "Glock fan boys", or FN or CZ fans, or some other plastic gun, and just don't like the fit or feel of the Beretta.

everyone has his or her own tastes and opinions.

rather than base your opinion on what "your friends say", at least try renting one, and give it a go, and THEN, form your own opinion..???

to be swayed by the opinions of others is being very closed minded.

I held the Xi version with the curved grips and like the grip and angle of it. I've never shot 1 before, but would probably like it. As for optics installed, probably not due to it sitting unusually high?

I ran the Beretta M9 sporadically from 88-92 (commander gave us the option and I kept the Model 15 revolver) ran it from 92-2000 as a full time duty piece and then as a Air Guard guy and CATM til 2007.

Beretta 92’s are great guns. I personally like the original with the slide mounted safety/decocker and most folks concerns of flipping it down in slide manipulation are exaggerated just like the locking block (which they fixed in short order) and same for the under 10 slide separations which they fixed again in short order.

While the GTS version is also nice I would opt for a decock only slide mounted lever but that’s me with a couoke decades of use of the original style

So that said I’d go with the 92X Centurion OR a Wilson Combat version

One thing for certain thwre is enough Beretta 92 Variants if you can’t find one that fits what you want not sure what will!

i'm unclear on what the parameters are on changing a non-slide mounted decocker to a slide mounted 1? i see where it's offered. any info? so, you're saying there are non-gts models equipped with slide mounted decockers from the factory?

The only non GYTS versions I am aware of are the slide mounted 92’s dubbed “G” doodles where the lever is a decock only and flips to fire after decocking unlike the military or original 92 FS

In the mid 90’s Beretta offered a frame mounted safety geared towards the USPSA crowd but it was short lived. The new GTs seems to be a similar option but seems better

It’s all about getting use to it. If I was told I had to carry one I’d just put in the practice to get proficient with how that decocker works. Both would be solid options just your preference
