BEST COLD WEATHER CARRY GUNS FOR 2026

Answer #1 ‐ Pretty much same as rest of year , as l alread tend to carry decent sized guns .

Answer #2 ‐ The could be a distinction between cold , and COLD . If sub or near zero ( Deg F) temps , everybody including BG will be wearing multiple layers of long johns , heavy flannel shirt(s) , inbetween layer of hoodie or heavy vest , topped by carhart -ish , or other tough parka .

Plus while you CAN conceal a Desert Eagle under heavy winter gear, accessing it is a completely different thing. Doesn’t matter what it is if it’s not available “right now”. That J frame .357 in your coat pocket will beat the cannon you can’t draw every single time.

Disagree. In seriously cold weather you’ll be in a zipped up parka or similar. A whole lot tougher than drawing from under an unbuttoned sports coat.

I generally carry a Glock 19 all year.

The last 18 months I worked coincided with one of the longest winters in Colorado history.

It started snowing and mid September of 2019. We got at least an inch of snow (and a couple of good blizzards) every month until June of 2020.

I think the last of the snow was melted by July. July and August were more like late spring than Summer and it started snowing again in late August and it snowed every month until February and the snow was still on the ground in mid March of 2021.

I had to wear my uniform at work so I worked out layering under my uniform with a light fleece on top.

No parka to be bundled up under.

Where did you work. At that same time I was slumming at the DA's Office of a large metropolitan area. Drinking gallons of coffee and trying not to do anything more than I had to. This was really easy since the Investigations at the DA's Office was filled with retirees looking to avoid a honey-do list. It wasn't the largest metro area but.... I packed a G27; one of the few not to be running 9. Most of the old crowd looked at me funny when I told them we should have access to long guns. Those geezers probably thought I was talking about an 870 pump.

Now I carry a G48 mostly, but I'm looking to be the department crotchety old geezer (or one of them). One that lives in the past and see if I can get a 915, 6906 or combo 6915 to fly. I think I can since they okay'd my CS P-07 when they didn't look to close at it and didn't see the hammer.

I generally carry the same things year-round, but to play along with their game, my first question would be: No revolvers? Winter is when I tend to depend more on revolvers, and not one revolver was even mentioned.

Shibadog already said you can carry one in your jacket pocket with your hand on it. I’ve been doing that the last few winters with a S&W Model 12.

Revolvers work in the cold. They shouldn’t be stopped by cold-stiffened lube, cold-affected ammo, cold hands/wrists/arms that might not hold a semiauto solid and tight to recoil against.

Maybe you want to change ammo for the winter to something that hits harder or penetrates deeper. Or as Retired Bum says: something that starts with a “4”. Revolvers give you more options in the big rounds.

What about polar bears? I usually carry a HiPower, but polar bears will just laugh at that. I don’t need to be dealing with mocking polar bears this winter.
