This will give some size reference as well. We found this bison skull while hiking yellowstone in 2018.
The skull remained where we came across it btw.

I live in the same state of Chicago. Sadly enough I used to deal with Chicago. Let me tell you that there are to many book smart people out there that don’t understand how these parts work. Do I miss it? Absolutely not.

As I mentioned in a previous post a few pages ago, when you enter a National Park, National Forest, or a National Seashore, you do so at your own risk. You are responsible for your own safety. If you don't or can't agree with that, don't enter. You can't sue the government over actions of wildlife. Now if it had been a predatory bear attack and the man had been killed, more than likely the bear would be killed. But if it had been a mother bear protecting her cubs and a human was killed, more than likely the mother bear would not be killed. In this case, it was a male bison in rut. Not much you can do about that. The government has put out reasonable precautions about these things. There are all kinds of U-Tube videos of idiots getting attacked by all kinds of different wildlife. This kind of falls under the old saying "Too bad, so sad" sort of thing. Live and learn.

40 years ago living in WV. Co-workers Grandparents come over from Poland. Family went on a picnic at Cooper’s Rock SP. Got out the picnic lunch on the table and up shows Yogi. Family retreated to the car and watch the black bear devour their lunch and then walk away ro sleep it off. My friend said it was the highlight of his Grandparents visit to the US

( actually, I think the bison still harbor a classified desire to avenge Buffalo Bill, and I don't blame them)
