Blanton's Bourbon

Just purchased my very first bottle of Blanton's Bourbon with the really cool and collectable Jockey/horse stopper. The seal will not be broken anytime in the near future. Been wanting to take a bottle home for some time finally made the move. I've drank many other bourbons but not this one. The critics claim it will not disappoint...one day I will be the judge of that. Cheers...

Make that one day now. Its allocated, but not due to supply, but by consumer demand and liquor stores making it allocated. I’ve sold it for years. Nice bourbon.
Dont wait. Drink it. It can be replaced. Its only bourbon

I go through a bottle/month. Great juice. Anyone can get it for about $120/bottle online, shipped to their door....but it really should not cost that much. ($99 near me). Like KF said, drink now. YOLO. If I had a Pappy 23, I'd crack that sucker at 9pm the eve before a 6am meeting. I consider great booze like my most expensive firearms. They ALL get shot as often as possible. No safe queens here (guns or booze).

That's one I have yet to try. I have stayed in the $45-50 range so far.
Currently working through some Jefferson's and Angel's Envy

I’ll say this, I think Wild Turkey 101 is a fine, often under rated bourbon for its full bodied flavor and price point.

I tend to always have a bottle stuffed back into my liquor cabinet. If you are introducing someone to bourbon, it’s a great one to explore.

Drank them both...good choices. When I got on the bourbon kick, I started with Knob Creek...hell I downed allot of that elixir. The heavy oak after taste suited me. Got burned out with it and started broadening my bourbon opportunities. It's amazing how many different choices are available. I don't think you could sample them all in a lifetime. It would be an expensive undertaking to say the least.

101 is indeed very good. Other cheap ones worth drinking Old Grandad 114, Old Grandad Bonded, Evan Williams Bonded

101 is ok as a benchmark brand. The other 3 are “ok” to sooo 1 sides on flavor and hot. Each their own, but buyer beware. Why there are thousands of whiskies. Lots of folks think Blantons is over rated as well. I give it a B-. Prefer many others over current price of Blantons

Here is the Buff Trace Distillery Mashbill and family tree …

I’ve found Blanton’s pretty good. For the money the I find Buffalo Trace to be excellent-only problem is word got out and it became harder to find (and price went up a few $$(

Prices are starting to drop and its becoming more readily available each year. BT built 13 new rickhouses to store bourbon, so each yr more comes available. Takes 10 yrs to age most of it, so 10 yrs ago they anticipated 10-12% growth which is industry standard. Not 100-200% growth. Cant just bottle it to meet demand. Has to age their required formula they follow. Same for almost all bourbons. Except the plastic jug stuff . Prices are coming down and thats a good thing. Demand is waining for bourbon as well. Folks are getting bored and going to aged tequilas. Those prices are going up as demand increases and supply drops. Aged same way as bourbon, so just cant kick a repasado or anejo out the door and bottle

Not a fan of any of the Rye blends. But...did I just see from the Buffalo Trace Mash bill recipe that Blanton's is distilled using rye?

Yup I’ve seen the same. Used to be BT was very common-then got darn hard to find. Now a few years later it’s showing up again. As you said yacant jest open the tap and have more. Bourbon takes time to age.we ru n up to Bardsyown on occasion-I’m always amazed at the number of rickhouses. It’s also prettty clever the way they store different ages of bourbon in the same building so if they lose a ric khouse or two to fire they still have stuff to sell.

Yes, must be 51% corn in new charred oak barrels...but where does the percentage of "Rye" come into play?
Any grain can be used with the 51% corn component. Rye adds spice. Every distiller has a grain make up they think works perfect on rye by %. Some use a lot, and some very little.
Some tiny tiny amounts. Rye is polorizong in a good and bad way
