CCW Renewal

Oaktree45

Custom
I renewed my Missouri CCW yesterday, it was easy peasy. The only tough part was the 44 mile roundtrip to the Sheriff’s office in the county seat, and the $50 fee for renewal. The CCW is good for 5 years so the next time it needs to be renewed I’ll be 84 years old…God willing.

Since Missouri is a Constitution Carry State, I was thinking about not renewing this time but for some reason my wife was adamant that I renew.

Handy when traveling out of state (or when buying a new smoke pole😊)

Hopefully in the near future you’ll be able to use your permit to bypass the BGC on 4473s.

Not in Missouri.
Does the state have a specific rule in addition to the new rule change ?

As far as I know nothing has changed in Missouri yet. I’ve heard there is a federal rule change possibly coming but…..

South Carolina is also a Constitutional Carry state for the past year. No permit required, open or Concealed carry (if you are legally allowed to own a firearm).

Since I travel to North Carolina regularly, I decided to renew mine. Good news is the state of South Carolina does not charge for the CCW permit anymore!

The Federal change is actually here.
Indiana there is a lifetime and a 5 year. Many that have the lifetime have applied for the 5 year as that covered the NICs BG check where the Lifetime does not.

Everyone can do whatever and I get it if you have a common name and get delayed. For me i am lucky as it has never been a big deal I’m in and out within 10 minutes of filling out the 4473. Of course I don’t have a common name and I put my social on it.

Just glad it’s an option if folks want to do it!

Many states have had that advantage afforded permit holders for years. Missouri does not. And as far as I know nothing federal has changed that yet.

Prior to the 1994 AWB and Brady instant check Indiana (which offered a License to Carry since before 1985 one of the first) there was a 7 day wait period on handguns UNLESS you had a permit. Then the permit served as the BG check and you bypassed the 7 day wait.

After the 1994 Brady bill that required an instant check (or however they worded it) it didn’t matter if you had a permit or not uiu if uiu wernt flagged as a delt you took it home right them.

So to me it sounds like they (ATF) decided a license that has a 5 year BG fulfills it.

Whether each state goes with it is yet to be seen.

Missouri hasn’t had a waiting period since NICS went on line. You still have to do a BGC with the 4473 though.
