I need you veteran shooters knowledge. The cheapest I can find ammunition for my new 45 is $47.00 per 100 at Bass Pro. Is there somewhere online that would be a better price plus free shipping if its available. Nearest Bass Pro to me is an hour away, so you if you include fuel to get there and back 8 gallons of dsl at $3.45 a gallon extends the price on out even further by $27.60!!! Any and all help you can provide will be greatly appreciated... Thanks

Is that duty ammo/carry ammo, or ball? Quality carry ammo is pricey, but I am getting 45acp 230gr ball at my LGS for about $19 per box of 50, the best price I have seen in several years. Hornady 220 grain Critical Duty is running about $1.50-$1.60 per round so I am not shooting much of that.

Midway has free shipping on orders over $100.
(If you create an account and list your birthday, you will get addition discount for one order for your birthday)

S&B or Magtech 230 gr FMJ $20.99 /50

Ammoseek.com requires some getting used to....you need to do a bit of jumping back-and-forth from ammoseek to each website (or others) to verify freight, but Ammoseek will show the cheapest "published" prices. SGammo is where I end up 90% of the time. They are reliable and usually close to the lowest cost...if you buy $200-worth of ammo (to avoid freight).

My local stores usually don't come close to the online prices w/free shipping. I purchase locally only on occasion. I have a few favorite online vendors that I frequent more often. I just ordered .45acp and 357mag from these guys, free shipping over $225.

Most of the time I order 9mm from sgammo.com, free shipping over $200.

Those two are my favs. I've also used PSA, Midway, Velocity, 2AWarehouse, or peruse ammoseek to see who's got the best price with free shipping. I used to have 6 tabs open in my browser, shopping for the best price. Not so much any more. Once you find a couple of reliable vendors you'll tend to stick with them.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I get some from Midway and some from AmmoSeek.com searches. I set it for shipping >4 and depending on results may search again with shipping >6. Right now I see S&B 230gr .45 at De Leon RX for $21.49/50 plus tax and shipping. Others are lower but with much higher shipping. Factor in the $27.60 plus a lot more in tires/transmission/ etc. and it's not bad. I've bought from De Leon and would buy from them again absolutely. The best I found is $30.90/100 at Fast Ammo but their shipping is only a 3 which is pretty bad (expensive). Good luck with your searches. Let us know what you find.
