tell you what, i'd not be leaving my garage door open. reminds of my car repair days when a cricket or 2 would get into the repair bays.....what an annoying sound they were.....

i'd be having all my windows, and doors shut, and the radio, or stereo playing loud.

i know, put huge speakers outside, and play an opera LOUD.......those SOBs would be flying to Russia.

Odd...I remember growing up near Milwaukee and would hear cicadas in summer-time, but they sounded a bit different than the ones in the video. I also worked in Chicago-area summer of 1991 and the cicadas were intensely loud...and sounded different than the video. Maybe it is/was a different strain of cicada? Maybe I remember there are different strains and some sound different. Yes, I'm way too lazy to google it. That many dead bugs will stink after a day or 2...

I ate "one" once when I was a kid back east during an outbreak in the early-70's.

Roasted it over a camp fire & it tasted like eating a burnt rubber tire. One & done.

There are different species of them coast to coast but the ones out west here are a none issue compared to the hordes back east.

They have worn out their welcome here.

I saved one today. I was *** up with my head in a hole working a gas service and while I was looking for my Lyco machine This cicada was screaming at me. In the hole it just echoed. I spied him. First thought was to smash him to shut him up. It was a fleeting thought. I picked him up, clawed my way back up out of the hole and tossed him in the air. He flew off and told me thanks as he was leaving.

Nevertheless, I am tired of them. It's not the noise, I hear that constantly anyway. I'm just tired of them slamming into my head, crawling up my pant leg and head butting the windshield of my car.

I have no idea how we managed to miss them this year. Usually the trees are filled with them and the buzz is everywhere. This year, I've only seen a couple and its been quiet. Doesn't seem to have been a local hatch this year. Just lucky I guess.
