Cinco De Mayo

Actually, Taco Bell was my first introduction to "Mexican-type" food since where I grew up it was unknown at the time, but when I was living & working in Oregon there were Taco Bells.

When I went back east to visit family I went to the supermarket to get the stuff to make my own but the selction was about 24" wide & 2 ft tall on the shelves.

I managed to get enough to make my own Tostadas,

& my Dad would say "what the hell are you making & eating".

A you know, we lived 50+ years in Southern California where there is no shortage of really good, authentic Mexican restaurants and taco shops. We still haven't found "the place" here in the Upper Midwest. So to commemorate 5/5, Mrs. BassCliff is going to put together her special Nachos Grande Salad with pulled pork, black beans, cilantro, homemade tomatillo, several different cheeses, sour cream, guacamole, with tortilla chips on a bed of lettuce. It's good eatin'. :D

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

@BassCliff what time should we stop by for dinner?

as a native texan
i love me some texmex, we have a local pop and mom restaurant that is very very good
they make fresh salsa daily, food is always HOT HOT and fast
they are a chain now with 3 in surrounding cities of out county... covid almost destroyed them, but they adapted and went full on parking lot style... waiters came out to your vehicle to take your order and topped off your tea and salsa as you waited on your food
it was cool, lap with school lunch trays and all

The place near me was really good. ICE came. Now it’s under new management and it sucks☹️

Cinco de Mayo
An annual celebration held on May 5 to celebrate Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
Why not Deutsche Einigung.
18 January 1871; typically celebrated as the date of the German Empire's foundation.
How about 14 July Bastille Day, or 25 Sept. Battle of Stamford Bridge. People have heart burn over Juneteenth? At least it concerns the US.
It concerns the US. Unless you think having to share a border with France is irrelevant. Instead of roofers and landscapers the country would be awash with pastry chefs and existentialist poets.
