After a spike in 2022, the number of Concealed Carry Permit holders across the United States fell for a second consecutive year. The figure now stands at 21.46 million – a 1.8% drop since last year. A major cause of the continuous decline is that 29 states now have Constitutional Carry laws.

Yeah. I guarantee more than 5% in Missouri are carrying.

I wonder how many people have ccw, chl, or ccps in multiple states? I have one for OR, WA, ID, WY, and MT. I used to have CA but it became too much of a pain to renew, not that it was easy to get to begin with. So the 10 - 15 % in WA might actually be a lot lower if the non-resident licenses are removed from the count for example.

The challenge for me has become magazine restrictions. I cross into WA and become an instant felon for example.

Tennessee went to permitless carry a few years ago. But living in the SW corner like I do, I and most of the people I know, keep our permits up to date as its not at all uncommon to venture into Mississippi or Arkansas at any time.
Tennessee shares borders with seven other states. I doubt if any permit holder has let their permit lapse.
I'll wager that Tennessee has a lot more people carrying than the 15% that map indicates. ;)

Thanks for the graphic and info, Talyn. If accurate, it is interesting that some of the “blue states” are really blue! A little hard to believe and understand.

Interesting juxtaposition, but not that hard to understand.

For out & out Blue States , that also have > 10% of Permit Holders, you're talking two states - Colorado and Washington .

A long standing gun culture , and also one sprawling urban area that is heavily progressive Dems , large enough to dominate state level politics. ( Oversimplified to illustrate the point )
Call it 60% anti gun liberals , and 30% heavily armed conservatives and libertarians , with little middle ground .

Now some of the others are * interesting * , but all due to various unique histories .

I’m sure constitutional carry has had a negative impact on these numbers as well. Wife and I travel-a lot-and I keep mine for that reason alone. If I never left the state I’d probably not have kept mine.
Texas likely dropped significantly after Constitutional Carry implemented. And most that had LTCs probably only buy one or two guns and likely don’t regularly so don’t see the benefit of keeping their LTC (License to Carry) current for its’ other benefits.
Here's an illustration!

Texas is a huge state , with wide variety of geography and climates . So much so that significant % of residents have little to leave the state .

Other regions of the country , state borders are close to much of the population, with frequent, if not daily crossing over , and Reciprosity is a big deal .

I'm a little surprised IN still topped 15% after having had constitutional carry for a few years now. I didn’t expect that with the streets running red with blood and gunfights over parking spaces cutting the numbers so much.

IN was one of the first adopters of " easy " Shall Issue back in the 1980's, but Con Carry only since 2022 .

So there is a cultural inertia of having simple Permits , measured in Generations . Plus having a home state permit is advantageous to venture into neighboring IL.

Nope ! But they do have difference in Transport regs for holders of certain oos permits .
I live near St. Louis. When I go to Indiana or anywhere to the east I go around Illinois. There’s a pair of bridges down south where you cross the Mississippi into Illinois and a half mile later you take a rickety ass bridge over, I think, the Illinois river into Kentucky. So less than 2 minutes in Illinois. Yeah, it adds time to the trip but it’s absolutely worth it. F Illinois.
