Costco Tire Service Centers

Alright how many of you feel like Costco is actually giving you the best price in town on light duty truck tires. The little lady and I just renewed our Executive membership and I'm curious to see how competitive they are and if they price match. I will do my own research when I'm close to dropping the hammer...but until then I believe I have read here some of you have chosen Costco to suit your needs.
For years I have dealt strictly with Discount Tire...I really like their customer service, pricing, etc.

I had 4 new 20" Cooper tires put on my 2025 F150 from BJs wholesale for under $900 with buy three get one free deal and free mounting and balance. They usually havethe best deals in my area with Walmart tire center coming in second most of the time.

i go to "real tire stores" not grocery chain store places.....or walmart tire centers....or "club places" like BJ's or sams, or costco.

1) real mechanics and mechanic helpers, and tire changers work there.

2) paid better then chain store employees

3) more selection of tire brands.

i had dealt with one of those "discount tire stores", where the jackass tire changer zipped on the lug nuts and totally destroyed 4 studs as well..... how the fook do you do that sh!t...??

you over power the impact wrench, like a jackass would, that's how.

discount tire stores, and chain store tire places DO NOT HIRE actual mechanics, cuz the money they pay is just "slightly above" minimum wages.......you ain't gonna get people with brains working in those places

Costco sells first line brand tires, not down-graded knock-off s as some imply.

And the folks at mine aren't goof-off minimum wage tire changers.

As a kid worked at a gas station and changes tons of tires, so I know the difference.

Other places I lived I had to use BJ's & Sam's Clubs and IMO they are 2nd tier knock-offs compared to Costco.

For me, Discount Tires has seemed to be the best price wise, at least around here. But I always go around the whole truck, checking lug nuts before I leave the parking lot. More than one case of finding one or more lug nuts on only finger tight. I've been lucky in that I've never found one on too tight. And there were at least three times I've left the parking lot and driven home only to find one of my center caps missing. Each time I drove straight back to the store, ignored the people in line and went straight up to the guy who dealt with me and demanded they order and pay for a new center cap. They replaced them each time. Now, anytime I go to any place for tire work, I pull off my center caps myself and put them back on myself. I don't trust anybody to get it done right.

i take my hubcaps off anytime i go for a tire rotation, or flat repair......hub caps for my car (toyota Corolla) are like $185.00 each....

i made firestone pay for one, after i got a new set of Bridgestones on a Camry i owned, to the price of $225.00

Costco used to have the best prices on the planet for Michelin tires. Then Michelin slowly declined in offerings and popularity and Costco slowly became far less competitive with their pricing. I keep a Costco membership exclusively for paper towels, TP, paper plates, trash bags, etc. They have become tricky with their prices and if you don't keep an eyeball on it, they have actually become more expensive than Target and Wally-Mart on some products.

I have discovered a lot of Kirkland products being sold on Amazon for the same price as Costco, and even cheaper in some cases.

I used to stock up on Rib Eyes from Costco but my local Costco has really been selling unsatisfactory product over the past few years. Fortunately there is a good old fashioned butcher here locally and they now get all of my meat business.

There is a tire chain here, Les Schwab, that is really competitive and provides exceptional service. They are the kind of place I trust to send my daughter to with my credit card and know she won't be taken advantage of.

I hear you...although the young men @ Discount Tire for example are well trained up at least that's been my experience.
Their impact air wrenches have torque limiting capabilities as not to damage lugs/studs. Sh#t happens...and if incidents like you had were commonplace, they would be looking for another job.
Finding good help these days is a crap shoot. Attention to detail is a foreign language.

my qualifications to spot automotive chain store hacks...

i was fully involved in trucking, when i re-certified my ASE credentials.....

I really dread what mine will cost when needing replaced.
stick with brand names you heard of, and mileage life......

i'd not spend money on (say Toyo tires) that are only good for 40,000 miles, to Bridgestone's that are nearly the same price, for say 60,000 miles.

my toyota dealer wanted to sell my Toyo tires for more money, that Mavis Tire sold me Hankook tires that can go 70,000

i sold Hankook tires, originally from Korea when they first came to this country (back in the early 1980's???) , when i ran the garage....now, since about 2015 maybe......???....they make them in TN...

Mavis Tire co, has been buying up lots of "mom/pop" stores, as well as some big ones, keep the same pro's working there, (if they want to stay) so you know the place, and the people

they bought up several mom/pop stores in my area.

I went to Costco for my Jeep Cherokee and took the printed estimate to Discount Tire and they will either match or beat Costco's price.

I prefer Discount Tire as I travel by road a lot for work. If I have an issue in far reaches of Texas, OK, or Ark I can go to any Discount Tire as they are way more plentiful than finding a costco.
If traveling around is minimal, Costco probably is just fine
