Some other truck or record may have been the real problem, but the vehicle pinged as stolen — and Sprague’s AT4X, equipped with LoJack, was the one that got flagged and tracked.
Lehto notes that Sprague never agreed to have that tracking device installed, and that his security clearance actually forbids unauthorized tracking on his personal vehicles because of his work around high-ranking officials.

I personally question the sanity of spending $61,000 on a pickup truck.

These days , $61k is cheap , for a new truck..

my first truck was a new 1980 chevy C-10 stepside, victory red. 3 on the tree, no power nothing, not even an AM radio....i paid a mere $3,900 for it
2nd truck was a 1986 C-10 fleetside, midnight blue, 305 V-8, P/S, auto, AM/FM radio, nothing else.......paid $8,999. (traded in the '80)
3rd and final was a 2004 Ford Ranger, Toreador red, V-6, 2wd, auto XLT, loaded to the max...paid $16,000 (with a trade)
the next truck i wanted was another C-10 Silverado...........(no basic models available anywheres) , only fully loaded.....price was at least $40,00
i said.....uh huh.....
sedans, here i am............and i keep those prices under (at least) $25,000

All true ( , albeit not quite half is pure inflation) .
But in 2025 , $60k is still cheap for a new truck , heck 3-4 yrs ago new F-150 were $70k . ( Not that l'm willing to pay that .)
A couple weeks ago my previously faithful truck had sudden death , and l had to get transportation fast .
Shocked myself to have to pay $20k . ( Nice truck , worth the price , etc . But if l'd had a cpl weeks , l could have gotten something half , or a bit less .)
