Crime Rampant in Austin

So they jumped on the defund police bandwagon, prosecuted officers for doing their jobs, are "re-imagining" policing, and are 400 officers short. 911 callers are being put on hold. Crime numbers are way up. I wonder what the problem is?

Every community gets precisely the quality of police service they deserve. Austin should be one of the safest cities in America, right there in Texas. It is going to take a political Tsunami to turn things around to law and order in these big liberal cities. The alternatives are not good.

Just read an article the other day where the defund group in one small city, cannot remember the city name, got what they been wanting, the entire police force quit all at the same time.

Maybe the mayor and city council will be writing thier parking tickets now...

my new mayor has promised to have more police training academy's and he has so far. last weekend they graduated quite a few, bolstering our city's force to just over 425 now..with retirements coming up, throughout the coming years, this new mayor a democrat is all for the quality of life for us citizens, and i could not be any happier...our last mayor,

was a no go on many things, and "gave in" to whatever protesting was going on at the time, in other words, a real loser...

another police academy is supposed to start i believe in springtime.

he wants at least 2 per year, until the ranks fill up, (i believe to about 500) and the union is all gung-ho for this guy.

@CityofProv
is behind you every step of the way. Our community is safer & stronger because of you.

Though I live near the Mexican border in the Rio Grande Valley, I have friends and relatives in the Austin area. Most of them have moved outside of the city and would rather deal with the bad traffic than living with the crime in the city. The problem is that lots of people are doing this so surrounding areas are getting as expensive to live as Austin.

In my opinion, Austin has been getting a bad reputation for a long time. For the all the money that comes in from taxes their local government has forgotten about the regular working man. I've had lots of job opportunities in the Austin area but no amount of money would get me to live there. Most of my life I have preferred to be happy than to be rich. I don't regret being that way.

I have martial arts students in McKinney(north of Dallas) and surrounding areas, who tell me they feel like McKinney is turning into Austin north or California, Texas...:) I lived in the Dallas area for almost 25 years and if I lived there now I'd live in Fort Worth not in the Dallas area.

I'm an optimist. I think most Texans and people who live in our great state will see how bad Austin is and there will be a massive exodus or at least a voting in of a local government that protects all the people.

My little city (58,000) shares a border with Memphis. We're right next door. Yet its like a whole nother world. Yeah, we have crime, but nowhere near the level of Memphis. The reason? We have an excellent Police Department. They do their job and have a reputation for catching bad guys and closing cases. The bad guys are aware of this and the smart ones stay away.
Moreover, the Mayor, city government and the citizens fully support our Police Department. We appreciate our cops and they know it.
Unfortunately, we are also under a newly elected, ultra liberal County DA. He's making Memphis worse by the day. We're wondering what effect he'll have on our city?

Those people in those cities get what they deserve. Elect morons and that's what you get. Let the residents go and take care of the problems themselves and see hoe they like it.
Kinda how I look at it. When I heard this morning there were 4 shootings in N. St. Louis over the weekend( one was a “ Mass shooting” since 4 people were shot in the hood) I was overcome with ennui.

In my lifetime I have lived in a lot of places all over the country. As a result I have formulated a rule of thumb that has seemed to work quite well. It has to do with the lot size of your residence. The house size is not a factor - just the lot size. It seems that you will have a better quality of life and enhanced safety if you move to a neighborhood where the lots are a minimum of one acre. The larger the lot, the safer and happier you are. To me, it seems that man was not meant to live stacked like cord wood. People with less land to take care of have too much time to devote to stupid things. There is nothing more honest and real than mounting that Kubota with a 60 inch mower deck on a Saturday morning. Great satisfaction comes from that time thinking about real basic life instead of some foolish, abstract cause. You are far away enough from your neighbors that you can't hear their petty arguments and have to confront them.

Do yourself a favor and get 10 acres and a tractor (or mule) and a lot of life's issues will melt away.

i keep telling my wife that i'd like to have a small house on 10 acres (mostly wooded).

i will get banned if i say what i think about austin
i will say i am so tired of the panhandlers on almost every corner begging...whilst signs right behind them at businesses have help wanted posted in windows
or the vagrant sitting in home depot parking lot begging for money..while right above him is a giant sign stating HD needs workers.

I spent the first 18 years of my life trying to get off the farm and the next 32 trying to get back on it. We moved to the ranch and although I was called up and gone a lot after 9/11, life is good out here.

Sounds like a great, maybe the best, reason to oppose him to me.
i don't understand what the hell you are saying...the former mayor was a loser, or did you not get that..??

anytime a cop did something that went against the status quo, the mayor would give him up to the news reporters and wanted him suspended or fired.

that also went for the commissioner who was supposed to be a "cops cop" he too would serve up a cop to the crowds to appease them, and would talk to the news media.

one instance was a cop slow speed chasing some punk, that was driving one of those scooters with a gang of others, who were terrorizing the citizens on those ATV's and dirt bikes,

cop cams caught the punk crashing into a building, the cop car NO WHERE near him, the punk lost control all on his own.

to appease the anti-cop morons, the mayor and commissioner gave up the cop to the press and crowd, WITH OUT due process....

how do you think the union felt, knowing thier bosses (the mayor and commissioner) were just giving up cops to the defund police crowd...??

you either support your police or GTFO of town......

this mayor gives them his full support and backing...

so my questions to you are...

1) are YOU anti cop, or DEFUND the police..??

2) are YOU a socialist..??

3) are YOU a commie...???

4) are YOU even a born AMERICAN citizen..???

Ordinarily any candidate any union strongly supports is a liberal. Even police unions are generally anti gun.
