CT gun store owner charged with firearm theft over $14K

NEWINGTON - The president of a local gun store was charged earlier this month with larceny and possession of a stolen firearm after police say he kept a $14,000 shotgun meant for another store, according to a warrant for his arrest.

Scott Hoffman, the president of Hoffman's Gun Center, was arrested Sept. 8.

Article says he stole 38 guns, like broke in and stole them and sold them for drugs. Nothing about a shotgun.

NEWINGTON — The president of a local gun store was charged earlier this month with larceny and possession of a stolen firearm after police say he kept a $14,000 shotgun meant for another store, according to a warrant for his arrest.

Police became aware of the possible theft in July when an employee attempting to sell the 28-inch Beretta SL3 HI-Polish shotgun as part of a 10% off sale discovered it had been reported stolen, the warrant for Hoffman's arrest said.

Interviews with current and former employees by police and federal agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives, traced the gun back to Beretta which had reported it stolen or lost in shipment in 2019, the warrant said.

Hoffman knew that the gun had been mistakenly delivered to the Newington gun store in 2019 but never made any attempt to pay for the firearm or return it, police said in the warrant.
