When I was a kid there were veterans of the war in both theaters all around. Most did not talk about their experiences. I regret not having the forethought back then to have a conversation with them about what they experienced. Soon that generation will be gone. Thank goodness movies and series like Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, The Pacific, and others have captured much of the history for us. God bless our warriors past and present.

It wasn’t that long ago a post concerning D-Day was multiple pages. Even the extended families are passing, along with the memories.

Now we're loosing the VietNam vets.

My Dad made 3 jumps with the 82nd during WW2. He never talked much about it. Occasionally when playing cards with my Uncles WW2, Korea, and VN vets (and after a few adult beverages), I would over hear some stories.

I had multiple great uncles on multiple beaches then. Now most in the family don't remember their names. Truly saddening!!

and the operation was so complex, filled with snags to stop it and leave our troops stranded.
every time i read more about it i am truly amazed and proud of our troops and what they accomplished despite the losses of men

The more i learn about that operation the more i realize that there will never be enough adjectives for what those boys did, how appreciative i am...

...and how ignorant and unappreciative this country has become now.

My Dad went ashore at Omaha with the 29th Infantry. He never spoke about it much, but when he did he got that look in his eyes. I knew not to push the question.
