It's well documented that the Maui fires were caused by high winds causing power line failures which then ignited raging wildfires through dry grass & shrubs.

Just like the fires that were similarly caused the large wildfires in CA, OR & WA the last few years,

Going back to a uninformed prior post...

The Lahaina, Maui fire was a "power-line" fires just like those that have happened in CA, OR & WA recently.

High winds due a weather front blew down a live power line which was the ignition source which ran through flashy grass/shrub fuels with high wind behind it.

The running fire (flame front) then ignited the first houses (heavy fuels) on the edge of the large grassy/shrub area north of Lahaina, which then progressively set more houses on fire as the wind-driven conflagration spread through Lahaina and south to the ocean.

Same fire behavior as happened earlier in LA.

I don't know if you read the article but the described laser system is "designed to offer protection for U.S. troops against incoming unmanned aerial systems, munitions and, most importantly, cruise missiles."

Contact the US Army if you need further clarification on why they call certain systems what they do. No bending of laser beams are involved.
