Difference between mil spec & DYL 1911?

I have tried to figure out if there is a mechanical difference or quality difference between the mil spec and the Defend your Legacy series 1911. If it's just the grips, extra clip & case, why pay more for the mil spec? Please make me feel better about paying the extra money as I'm excited to own my first 1911 and want to be sure I made the right decision.
 
Ask any military guy and he'll say Mil-Spec means farmed out to the lowest bidder.

I think in civilian terms it's a marketing gimmick more than anything else.

In a way yes. Several folks think it means a something different. Some think of it isn’t Mil-Spec you aren’t a tactical operator mall ninja. When I’m looking at building an AR there are lowers that are known to be “out of spec” or not Mil-Spec which in turn the dimensions won’t be right when you try to put it together with the other Mil-Spec parts. It is also parts that are tested and have met a requirement which mean something to a lot of guys.
