That's what back up iron sights are for.I've never heard of fixed sights failing in a self defense situation. To each his own to do with your firearm as you wish, but practice like your life depends on it. On the range, no harm no foul. On a self defense carry gun, I look at the 'dot' as a crutch. Imagine your reaction if a 'dot' malfunctions at the worst time of your life.
