Do You Really Need That? A Better Gear Philosophy

To many, the simple answer is defaulting to how the military does it. That means dividing up your equipment into first line, second line, third line, and so on. While that makes sense for a military unit who has a primary mission of seeking, fixing, and destroying enemy combatants- it might not actually work for the average citizen just trying to protect their neighborhood during difficult times.

The military's approach to gear is an enigma. We see all these articles about the latest innovative weapons developed for the military and secret government programs that no one has ever seen or heard about yet, but then we know that other than special forces a typical GI is given a pedestrian rifle and other gear put together by the lowest bidder, i.e. "Mil-Spec".

Take your pic of these explanations as they pertain to the above OP figures.

3 "lines" of gear exist:

• 1st "line" = Survival

• 2nd "line" = Fighting

• 3rd "line" = Sustainment

Each "line" has a separate purpose.

No "line" is more important than another.

Note: Not all may apply to anyone's AOPs situation, and/or gear/kit and preparedness needs. Plus, as per BBs comment, not all mil gear/kit set-ups depicted pertain to the civi world.

The first one, Varusteleka, best described proper gear placement.
