It's because of those Children of the Corn movies, isn't it?
I think it's just habit. When I was young my aunt and uncle lived near Des Moines and I remember being forced to go up there and spend a week with them in the summer. Boring as hell. Then as I got older it was reinforced by Iowa's ridiculous gun laws. More recently they have become more freedom minded, but there just isn't any kind of draw for me.

I went on a road trip to Henry's Fork Idaho about 4 years ago. I had to go through just a little bit of Iowa to get into South Dakota. It's the only state on the way there or back that I was, eh, uncomfortable in.

Dang, you are hard to please! The skinny ones can run between the cornrows easier, and the more substantial ones can provide warmth in winter and shade in the summer.
😁😉
yeah, but it's what in between the folded skin of those "substantial ones" that scares me.........
