Well, I could probably put my stained jeans with holes and tears in them on ebay and make a fortune on the latest "fashion". I was a pioneer and didn't know it.

Well said.Yes, my t shirts usually have some kind of gun on them and sayings that liberals would blow a gasket over. i wear them everywhere. And Mr. Coetzee, It's Really with two l's not two a's.
I have spent some time in uniform and buzz cut but I have had long hair and beard for 40+ years part of which was assignment. I now have to ware a protective glove on my right hand because it's been shattered to many times and walk with . I really don't give a rats patootie what people think they see or think , I wear what's my comfort zone

I always kinda shake my head at the "I dont care what other people think" groups. Of course you dont UNTIL you need some sort of interaction. Have a question at a store and need help-it matters how you look. Need to return something that the store got wrong-it matters. Wanna use someones phone or ask them to call for help because you just got attacked-it matters. Talking to the PD after that attack-and yeah it matters. Stand in front of a judge-it certainly matters.

I truly get "work" clothes and I understand some places get hot and at a certain stage in life when you have no responsibilities that you dont have to dress to impress or even dress for others. I dont expect anyone to dress for me. We dress for ourselves. Its just when we are not by ourselves....
It kinda follows that thing your mother used to say about always having clean underwear incase youre in an accident and have to go to the hospital....or be on video in a parking lot stopping a carjacker or maybe have a mug shot taken

Brother I never thought anything else. My standards are mine but they arent mine alone, so when others deviate they do so on their own accord THATs not the issue. Its never been the issue
The point is that when you stray, you are noticed and from the sounds of your description, not for the better but as I have said from the beginning you should do so with the understanding of those responses. I have little doubt that you are a good and knowledgeable person and Ive never meant to offend you; although from your posts, I think perhaps you are upset because of our differing positions. Im also hoping you never meant anything but fellowship for me, as well.

You have a longer fuse than I do Pieter. This thread has made me realize I am preaching to the wrong choir. This forum is dominated by older men, many of which don't even seem to carry a serious defensive firearm. I am thinking they are not receptive to learning and offer even less in terms of constructive advice. My time is better spent on other forums I am afraid.

Well hell, since old men are the problem, why don't we just have everyone put to sleep when they get 65. when you young folks get to be old you will see things a lot differently. ya know we didn't get old being fools. I got nothing against what anyone does or how they dress, judging someone on how they look is stereotyping and you can't go by that. i learned that lesson years ago teaching kids. you would think i'm an old hippy, dope smokin, non bath taking tree huggin environmentalist climate nut job. you'd be very wrong on all of it. AGAIN, as I keep saying I dont care how any of you dress or for that matter who or how you swop spit. Im on my 3rd retirement so Im one of you old guys. I dont like or live in 100 degree temps anymore but when I did I didnt use it as an excuse to be sloppy.
What I keep trying to suggest is you can walk around using tissue boxes for slippers (or whatever) all you want BUT yes you will be looked upon with concern and suspicion and you wont receive the same respect as someone who is clean, has combed hair, a trimmed beard, and not dressed for the Walmart fashion show.
You can call it stereotyping if you want. Id say its a social prejudice and its part of natural selection and we ALL do it, we just dont like it when someone calls us on it. So stereotype or prejudice or whatever, just dont expect to live in a place where it doesnt happen
And please its not about wearing a suit

OK Pistol Pete and the Winchester guy. It's all in the way you come off to people. For the most part, I try to be light hearted and funny on the forum. But you two guys really push the buttons. Winchester whatever comes off as an entitled hypocritical preppy type. Brags about the women he has bedded in one post, with pictures, and then in another post lets everyone who has ever listened to 80s metal music know they are going to hell. And of course has to let us know how he has owned every classic car ever made. How he is retired at 60. So am I, but because I'm crippled from "real" work. I doubt his hands have ever been dirty from real work. And you "Pete". Just go back to submitting articles to Soldier of Fortune magazine. I'm already going over my blood pressure limit thinking about all the BS you post. You two posers aren't worth writing anything more about. Rant over.
