So today I decided to hit the range with my Staccato C and Wilson Combat EDC x9, along with 200 rounds of Federal American Eagle 124g FMJ. The majority was going through the Staccato, with only 15 rounds designated for the EDC x9 - because I wanted to get to exactly 1000 rounds fired by that pistol
. After this trip, the Staccato has 775 rounds down range.
I also got some good news and bad news. The good news is they ARE upgrading/repairing the range and moving into the digital era. RSO says he will have a tablet that indicates when someone hits something they shouldn’t have and after 3 of those, shooter will be pulled from the line. So maybe the ceiling will last longer! The bad news is that it’s going to take a while and only 5 lanes available while other side upgraded. But I’m looking forward to the changes.
First up was the Staccato C/Trijicon HD and the SKTY drill target that uses 68 rounds. Three rounds into each square, slow fire. I went clockwise starting top left…and did awful. At least I got good groups on the bottom squares, although I missed the squares
. I did adjust the RDS here and there, but since I was removing it after this trip, didn’t really try hard to get it lined up. The Trijicon HD will be going on a Staccato HD 3.6 that will get here someday and an EPS carry is going on this C24.
Following that, I did the rest as fast as I could, changing magazines as necessary until drill completed. Drill calls for magazine swaps at specific points, I just did them as necessary, so it occurred once or twice each pass.
1 round each circle, left to right, top to bottom
2 rounds each circle, left to right, top to bottom
3 rounds each circle, left to right, top to bottom
Had some good hits, had some bad hits, had some misses, had FUN!
Next up was Vital Dude, again with the Staccato C24.
3 yards - 5 rounds left shoulder, 5 rounds right shoulder, slow fire
5 yards - 10 rounds center, fast as target acquisition
7 yards - 10 rounds center, fast as target acquistion
15 yards - 5 rounds center, slow fire
3 yards - 5 strings of 2 to center, 1 to head
I did forget to take the picture before I started second round, so this has 10 rounds in each shoulder.
Finished up the second round.
I had some extra rounds so did some more strings of 2 to center, 1 to head AND just because some of you ALWAYS ask, moved the target out to 7 yards and did a mag dump into the lower intestine.
Finished up checking the zero on the Wilson by firing 15 rounds into the teeth at 7 yards. As always, a great time. I was only one there for my entire shooting time and as I finished cleaning up, a couple came in to shoot as I was walking out. This hobby ROCKS!
