Serial number 87 was the first to pass all function testing and receive a proof stamp.

This was assembled at some point during the last 2 years of production (1955-1957).
The last M1 Garand ever assembled was serial number 6084405, completed on May 17, 1957, and is on display at the Springfield Armory National Historic Site. However, the highest recorded M1 serial number known to exist is 6100499, as receivers were not assembled in strict sequential order.
