American Tactical Brings a Legendary Revolver Concept Back to Life

There was a time when revolver manufacturers weren’t afraid to think outside the box. New designs, innovative features, and mechanical improvements were all part of the competition to win over American shooters. Somewhere along the way, however, the revolver market settled into a fairly predictable pattern.

The new OLMI 963 MF draws inspiration from the innovative Dan Wesson revolvers of the 1970s, bringing interchangeable barrels, seven-shot capacity, and a fresh perspective to a segment of the firearms market that could use a little excitement.

The 963 MF is produced by Italy’s Fabbrica d’Armi Olmi, a company with decades of firearms manufacturing experience. The design itself isn’t entirely new, having first appeared in Italy in 2013 and later entered the American market through Taylor’s & Company. American Tactical’s offering therefore represents a new opportunity to introduce an established but relatively unfamiliar design to a broader American audience.

At first glance, the new OLMI 963 MF has the unmistakable appearance of a traditional, full-size double-action revolver. But look a little closer, and the similarities to the classic Dan Wesson concept become apparent.

The real attraction is the planned interchangeable-barrel capability, with 4-, 6-, and 8-inch configurations giving owners the opportunity to tailor the handgun to their shooting preferences.
