I had a range session yesterday checking out the newly installed short trigger in my Ronin 9mm lightweight. It worked great. While there I decided to check the velocity on the ammo I am currently using. I haven't chronographed pistol ammo for many years since I blasted my Shooting Chrony. The new Athlon is pretty much foolproof for that. The results sorta surprised me.
Cheapest ammo:
Fed 124gr HydraShok + p+ Ronin 4 1/4" 1199.2 fps 2.10 std.deviation
SA-35 4.7" 1249.4 fps. 7.7 std. Deviation
Monarch 115 gr FMJ. Ronin. 1175.3 fps. 8.3 std. Deviation
SA-35. 1212.1 fps. 7.7 std. Deviation
Hornady 115 gr Am Gunner Ronin. 1197 fps. 15.2 std. Deviation
SA-35. 1224 fps. 13.7 still. Deviation.
The consistency of the Monarch ammo was excellent considering the price point. The Hornady ammo was a solid 50 fps + over the stated velocity, I guess they test in shorter barrels. It had the worse consistency.
The Federal hydrashok performed as expected, you get what you pay for.
It would have been an outstanding morning if wasn't 95 in the shade by 10:30.
