Families at Air Force base in Florida told to take down Christmas decorations.

I was in both the Army and Air Force and I assure you I did more than my share of grounds maintenance when I was a young troop. I'm also sure as a young Marine you also did your share.

You are correct, you did not call me a liar. You said you do not believe me one bit. I guess I must have been hearing or seeing things in my head. I was an Infantryman in both the Marine Corps and the Army. Of course I did my share of police calls. But contractors were always the ones who did the grounds keeping duties. And as a federal civilian aircraft mechanic, we always did FOD walks right alongside our active-duty military counterparts. And the same here, contractors take care of groundskeeping duties. Don't call our military personal lazy when it's not put in the budget to take care of mowing lawn. Maybe you and your retired buddies can go volunteer to go show all those whipper snappers how it was done back in your day. Maybe you can even show them how you used to paint rocks, also. Don't get lazy and not paint both sides!

When I worked for G4S we had 2 checks that were on PAFB(at that time) and the USAFA. There was one that was on Cheyenne Mountain but it was outside the gate.

Other than that, I haven't been on a military installation since 2003.

I don't recall ever seeing a landscaping crew on Fort Carson or Fort Lewis. That doesn't mean they weren't there it's just not something I ever saw
 
Hi,

I was married when I went in so I took the extra stipend and lived off base (March AFB). But I still did my share of keeping our work area on base looking good, sweeping, painting, scrubbing toilets, washing windows, etc. I seem to recall other airmen talking care of their areas when they were off duty. I haven't been on an installation since 1980 except when I visited my brother at 29 Palms sometime around 2010. I thought that place looked OK. I hope "lazy" is not typical for our current forces.

I completely understand putting up decorations (gutters, roof, etc) early due to living in a cold/harsh environment. However you don't have to turn them on, active the music, or any other annoyance. I live in a warm area so my HOA says Dec 3 and we are limited with the amount of said decorations. I did know this when we bought the place and it is on of the rules I follow.

there will always be people that "just love the holidays", and i can appreciate that.

what one does in his/her own home, is fine with me.

however, rules are rules, set by whomever owns the housing development.

in this case the military.

but for public displays of music, or decorations, those places, like nearly every retail store, needs to get in line with proper displays for each holiday...not several weeks or even months, ahead of time.

I agree with you about the rules for places like the military bases
As far as retail stores, I mean, they're in business to make money
Obviously, what they are doing is working, becuase they keep doing it.
We the people have the power
If we stop shopping early, stop visiting the stores, make our opinions, known, they'll listen
The public has had huge impact on choices business make if we actually band together and make it happen.
It has happened with Chick Fil A - there was that day where people stood in lines around the store to show up to support them. There was Budlight, Cracker Barrel, etc...
We have the power.
 
And now for that favorite Christmas classic…just to lighten the mood a bit… (personally, I’m waiting for the updated ICE version since Ms. Noem likes to make videos 😃)
