I believe we counted 10-11 shots. He is justified but I think he is pushing his luck with 10-11 shots to neutralize the threat.
If the criminal was jacked up on something perhaps it took that many.

What do you folks think?

Based on the amount of rounds in the ceilings of indoor ranges and the amount of rounds LEO’s send into perps, round count has zero bearing on stopping a threat.

Did the Police who stopped the school shooter count rounds ?
Did the crew that killed Bin Laden count rounds ??

Deadly force that is justified is justified deadly force, whether one or 15 rounds. You shoot till thevthreat ends. But, with an assailant who is down and clearly no longer poses a threat, additional shots can cross the line from self defense to execution. A pharmacist in Oklahoma is serving a life sentence for this very thing. But looking at this video I see nothing like that.

I have been in scene at a few shootjng, I have also been involved in some form of LE for 40 years to include training. Bear with me as this all rolls over to normal earth people when they use force

We are (or should be) long gone from the bad SOP of “shoot til the threat goes away”

I am also not suggesting shoot 2 and assess. However assessment IS a large part of it.

Any shooting whem an LEao shoots more than 7 rounds or faster than .38 it ends I. A mag dump and maybe an elbow hit. The .40-.50 and under 6 rounds is usually an effective stop by the LEO.

It is always best to avoid a shooting situation, but if it becomes necessary as is the case here, there is no formula for the number of shots. Use of deadly force cases are judged with the reasonable person standard. What would a reasonable person believe is reasonable and necessary in a specific set of circumstances? And every situation has its own set of circumstances.

I dont disagree.
What I have issue with is the “number of rounds” it takes to drop an assailant. There is no correct answer for this even with the most highly trained persons. Every situation and environment of the shooting is different. Were they in a car?
10 yards away or 10 feet away? Etc. Etc..

This. Every situation is different;
Nobody wants to be on trial but you do have to live to be put on trial. Just be prepared for the scrutiny you may face.
