Federal's Force X2 Home Defense Shotgun loads

Being that they spilt in half it will limit over penetration more so then standard 00 buck which is a good thing in a close quarters situation. These rounds would most likely still be pretty potent in a short range use. With all this being said #4 buck will probably be just as if not more effective for a home defense round.

#4 buck is what I would use in a home defense shotgun. Inside home use of 00buck or even o buck gives way over penetration for normal homes. Just my opinion and like other things , everyone has one. ;)

Ok, they split when they hit something wet; sa as a hollow point expands when something wet and noncompressible fills the cavity...

But if they hit something hard, like wallboard, will they still split, or will it clog like a JHP?

OO buck really doesn’t overpenetrate...let’s just say “meat”...it’ll usually stop under the off side skin...if it does go through, it’s usually lying on the ground a few feet away.

I would concur this is a solution in search of a problem.

Good input!

Definitely a solution in search of a problem that most likely cost double of what standard buck cost for a similar effect. 😁👍

To clarify , I was speaking about if you miss the bad guy when using 00 buck. #4 buck will go through several walls but not like the 00 buck will. If you hit your bad guy , there aren't really any problems with over penetration.

Yeah, it's what some of the article commenters wrote. I asked the same question as some, "why not #4 Buckshot". But it's an interesting concept (pellets that split in half), so I figured I'd post it before Anni did 😁
All this stuff is worth a read either way considering I'm not a ballistic expert and I'm sure most of the people on this forum aren't either so this becomes a type of food for thought.
