FINALLY Decided on New EDC

After my PDP Pro Compact misadventure, as well as no small amount of somewhat contentious discussions with Mrs. Springsteen, aka Mrs. Boss, I've decided on a Shadow Sytems MR920P as the gun I'm going to get in Sept. I just makes FAR more sense than getting an MOS Glock, then add all the stuff I'd wanna add to it in order to get it the way I'd want it. The guy from Tactical Considerations on YouTube actually did a video about it relatively recently where he laid out his fully custom G45 & all the things he did/added to it & what they cost vs getting a Shadow Systems XR920P. The price difference was about $1k:

I'm currently in the process of turning the PDP Pro into a range gun, & have already taken off the EPS full-size & replaced it with a Swampfox Justice 2 multi-reticle. First off, lemme say that the Justice 2 is AMAZING. It's got a MAMMOTH 30mm window, & the different reticles all have their own individual purposes. I also decided to get myself a SUPER nice optic plate for it from Eleven 71 Design, which is a 1 man, 1 machine operation based here in my home state of Tennessee. The guy makes his plates out of titanium, & the tolerances are tight enough to put even Forward Controls Design to shame. Granted, it wasn't a cheap plate, at $120 for PDP plates, $110 for Glock & others. He also has a service where he'll make custom plates if you send him your slide & tell him what optic you want you plate to fit & he'll make it for you for $140. I plan to do this with the slide for my IWI Masada in order to get an EPS plate for it, since NOBODY makes them. Not even CHPWS.

While I DID consider the Echelon for QUITE a while, here are the reasons I decided to go with the SS MR920P instead. 1, I may as well get it NOW, while I'm in the financial position to do so. God only knows when I'll have such an opportunity again. 2, before SS came out with their P models, I'd had my eye on the MR920L. I've ALWAYS been a fan of compact frames with full-size slides. Not having the world's biggest hands, something about that kind of configuration just FEELS right to me. The balance of such a pistol is just my favorite. Now, with the P models, I can still get the length of an MR920L, but with Shadow Systems' own Radian-style comp.

I know the Echelon will still be there in another year or so, when I'll be ready to get ANOTHER gun. And who knows, maybe by then, there'll be even MORE aftermarket support for it. It STILL remains, WITHOUT QUESTION, THE ABSOLUTE SMOOTHEST shooting full-size pistol I've EVER shot. And Lord knows, I 1000% plan on getting 1!

In the meantime, I'll post some pics of the Swampfox Justice 2 & the Eleven 71 Design plate

This is the best pic I can post of the gun & plate. For some reason, the closeups of the plate on the gun seem to be too large for the server. But I'm sure you can enlarge it to see just how well the plate fits & how it's made well enough to the point that it looks like merely just another part of the gun

I hope the justice 2 you have has the dot bouncing around like mine. I got the multi-dot/reticle. I'll tap on the slide and the reticle goes all over the place. I'm still testing to see what the exact issue is............emitter might not be held solid, the window might be loose or something else? So, what did the gun cost compared to what the changes on cost would add to it? @SimonRL isn't a fan as he has/had trouble with 1 of the models?

The cost of the G45 with the gun itself, the Radian, framework/stippling, Johnny Glock trigger, Night Fission sights, SLR magwell, & all the shipping associated with those things turned out to be close to $2k. Whereas the XR920P is $1099. The model I want, the MR920P, IS $1077. I've been doing my due diligence on SS for close to a year. God only knows why I DIDN’T get IT in the 1st place & got the PDP Pro Compact instead. But 3 of my buddies, 2 of whom are ex-military & 1 a current LEO, have all been carrying SS guns for the last 2 yrs. I know they need to be broken in before being carried & that THAT process takes about 200-300 rounds, usually with 124 grain NATO spec ammo, & that the gun needs to be run "wet" during the process. As far as the P models, I DO know they've improved their triggers, though I still plan to modify mine by throwing in an Overwatch Precision minus connector & a Ranger Proof Vex shoe ($120). The other thing I like about SS is that their CS is probably the best in the biz. After the break-in period, if you're still having issues, they're quick to resolve them. 1 of my aforementioned friends had a feed ramp issue with his MR920 Foundation, & they had him squared away in like 1.5-2 wks. You also CANNOT beat a company that'll REPLACE your firearm should you lose it due to it becoming evidence in a justified self-defense situation. You just send them a copy of the police report showing that it WAS a justified situation, & they'll send you a brand new version of the same model you lost to the court.

As much as I may gripe about my PDP, & the main gripe being that it NEEDS a comp (when you have Hobbit-like hands like I do, anyway), & that comp made my Pro Compact into a "Dirty Harry" length PDP, the fact remains that the trigger is 2nd to none, & the ergos are OUTSTANDING.

As for the Swampfox, my reticle was crooked. But, having ALSO done my due diligence about THAT company, I knew their CS & warranties are TOP NOTCH. I sent it in, & they sent me a new 1 that's absolutely PERFECT. The process was seamless, & they couldn't have been more polite & on top of it.

I considered a Shadow Systems after talking to a couple crayon eaters who own my favorite local gun store and tactical training facility up the hill from me. I played with the one guy's. It had a 1911 grip angle and was the only "Glock" I ever held that felt good in my hands. Alas, I got distracted by some other shiny thing. I believe it was the VP9SK. And that my friend's was totally @SimonRL's fault.

I sent mine (DR920 Elite) into the mothership and it came back with a host of upgraded parts and it ran fine after that. Ultimately, I just didn’t like the trigger, and it wasn’t one of those where dryfiring it felt rough but shooting I didn’t notice, I didn’t like it under any circumstances. It felt crude and for an expensive Gucci Glock I expected more.

I handled a VP9SK with optic at a gun show I attended over the winter. The moment I picked it up, it said, "Buy Me!" It's now #1 on my wishlist.
Great gun. I think the SK might actually be a better shooter than than the standard VP9. I’ve run mine in a couple of defensive handgun courses where you have to draw from concealment and it smokes everything. No one else ever brings an HK and when you whip yours out everybody wants to see. Instant street cred. Walther and Canik guys get very sheepish.

I like mine better than my standard VP9. And I shoot it better.

I like the MR920/L/P. The grip itself just feels like it was custom made for my Hobbit-like hands. Between the factory magwell on the bottom & the big-ass beavertail up top, it just makes my grip SUPER snug. And when you add in the length of the L/P models, the balance of the longer OAL of the slide &/or barrel is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for me. Rarely have I held or shot a gun that felt THAT good, that I was able to control AS well, with such great balance. It just works for me. And now that they have the P models, with a Radian-style comp right from the factory, & I DON'T have to buy a $620 stock MOS Glock, THEN add all the goodies (magwell, Radian, decent sights, etc), it just makes more sense (to ME anyway) to spend the $1077 on the MR920P than do all that with a Glock for twice as much.

But to each their own. Obviously, guns are 1000% subjective & what works for 1 person isn't necessarily gonna work for someone else.

To answer your question, the only major malfunction for me is the grip angle on Glocks! I've shot hundreds of rounds from Glocks belonging to relatives and friends trying to convert me but they're a "no go" for me until they make one with a proper grip angle.. Not bashing the brand, as millions love them, and millions don't, so I'll remain with the millions wanting the right grip angle for now. :)

Actually I prefer the grip on the full size G17 over the compact G19

I thought the shadow systems had a different grip angle than the glocks? Most gun manufacturers state they have the same angle as a 1911, if that was the case I wouldn't be able to shoot them as well. 1911's are bad enough for me and any gun with a grip safety is not a friend of mine. I will state that the 2 xdm's I have give me less problems. I prefer not to have any handgun with a grip safety as I'd take a manual safety over that.

SS has multiple different grip modules available, including the 1911 grip, which does not have a grip safety by the way.

I'm the opposite, as I have Hobbit-like hands & find the grip on the MR920P PERFECT. Between the factory magwell on the bottom & the huge beavertail up top, the gun feels as though it was custom made for my hands.

I DEFINITELY plan to switch out the backstraps on mine til I find which 1 suits me best
