Now, with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and with Vladimir Putin warning of “problems” with Finland after it joined NATO last year, Finnish politicians once more see a need arising. As a member state of the European Union, Finland is included in the official list of “countries and territories unfriendly to Russia.”

Finland has announced it will open 300 shooting ranges in a bid to encourage citizens to take a greater interest in national defense. A member of Finland’s defense committee said the move would help Finns improve their shooting skills in the face of increased threats from Russia.” The goal is to keep skills learned in the military honed and provide enhanced deterrence to aggression.

In Finland its a govt-sponsored civil defense program, whereas the US CMP is private org that sponsors competitive shooting events at their two main ranges (Camp Perry & Anniston) and through local affiliated clubs, but is allowed to sell surplus US ammo and rifles as per an agreement with the US Army.

Sounds like a good idea but would the Finnish public take advantage of the opportunity? Would their populace take up arms against foreign invaders? Do the young people have any “fight” in them? Do the young people here have any “fight” in them to defend their homeland? I saw a stat that willingness of Americans to fight a foreign invader was about 50/50.

Edited:
45% of men aged 18-39 would fight (see article below).

Remember that only about 1/3 of our population were willing to fight the British for our Independence. 1/3 wanted to stay under British rule, 1/3 wanted to stay neutral.

what is it some say here..??

when seconds count, the cops are several minutes away??

if any country came under attack, the time it'll take for NATO respond, will be hours, way too much time for the enemy to kill, destroy, and dig in.

i think it best for all countries to have such a program, as we never know when an attack on national defensive systems can happen, rendering incredibly slow response times, for any military to respond quickly.

anyone can be ready ASAP, or as it was once known as......an American Revolution militiaman who agreed to be ready for military duty “at a minute's warning.”
