Finnish M27 Mosin/to m39 rear sight.

Hello, I’m new to this forum and I hope I posted to the correct place, I am looking for some advice. I “may” want to swap the rear sights on my m27 mosin negant. Has anyone ever swapped a m39 rear sight over to a m27?

thanks for any info have a blessed weekend.

I did google this for you,

While both are Finnish Mosin-Nagant variants, you generally cannot directly swap an M39 rear sight onto an M27, as they are not designed to be interchangeable. The M39 (often called the "Finnish Army standard") and the M27 have different barrel profiles, receiver markings, and rear sight base designs.
Here is a breakdown of why this is generally not feasible:
  • Barrel Profiles: The M39 has a thicker barrel profile, and its rear sight assembly is designed for that specific profile.
  • Sight Design: The M39 rear sight assembly is designed for different, specialized, or adjustable setups, whereas the M27 typically uses an updated version of the Russian M91 rear sight base.
  • Fitment Issues: Attempting to force an M39 sight onto a different model like the M27 often requires extensive, destructive modifications.
Important Notes:
  • If you are having issues with the M27 rear sight, replacements are available through specialty vendors.
  • If you are trying to improve the accuracy or sight picture of an M27, it is highly recommended to look for original M27 parts or aftermarket solutions designed specifically for that rifle rather than using M39 parts.
  • The M39 rear sight blade itself (not the base) might be difficult to swap due to different dimensions.
For an M27, you are better off keeping it original to maintain its value, or using proper, fitted replacements.

Also the receivers on Finnish M39 Mosin-Nagant rifles were not newly made. The Finns did not manufacture their own receivers for the M39; instead, they refurbished and reused older, stronger Russian-manufactured receivers—many of which were Imperial-era (pre-1917) hex-style receivers—captured during the Winter and Continuation Wars.
  • Receiver Origins: M39s were built on varied receivers, including Russian Imperial, Soviet, French, and Remington or New England Westinghouse (WWI contract) produced receivers.
  • Refurbishment: The receivers were stripped, inspected, and often had their original serial numbers removed to match the new Finnish barrel, though old tang dates remain.
  • Production Process: While the receivers were old, the Finns produced new, high-quality barrels, two-piece "finger-splice" stocks, and upgraded sights for the M39.
  • Identification: M39s will typically feature a boxed "SA" (Suomen Armeija) stamp, signifying Finnish Army ownership.
While most are hex, some M39s were built on later round receivers captured during the war.

I'd suggest just seeking out a Finnish M28/30......
It was the last variant before the M39, it's just as good rifle, well, IMHO it's better than the 39, but I digress.....
