Ive been a fan of the Advisor Carbine for years. Theres a picture somewhere on the web of a young Lt Norman Schwarzkopf with one in Viet Nam

Uhhhhhhhh, no thanks. I prefer owning the full-length carbine. I'm not looking for some "cute" alteration that affords no advantage over the original short rifle. In a civilian setting, you might as well use a pistol-caliber carbine.
Hmmm? I see it as a pretty significant step above a 9mm SMG/PCC in the same size range BUT then I have no practical experience with a short Carbine. I have fired a 30 Carbine pistol (5" barrel) the noise and muzzle flash was HUGE. It wouldnt be something Id want to use in a tunnel.

If we think of the 9mm SMG as the Base for the SMG class and a 32acp/380acp (as in the Skorpion or M-11) as the Light class of SMGs, then something in 10mm (MP5-10 or Kriss Vector 10mm) maybe even the 7.62x25 might be the Intermediate class, that puts a 30 Carbine in the Magnum class

That may well be, but as you know, the short barrel robs the .30 Carbine of its performance, hence hindering its purpose. The 10mm Kriss Vector would be a better platform. With full-power loads, it will prove a better performer on both two- and four-legged threats.

Good point about the 10mm. Ive always thought 357Sig deserved a SMG. As for 30 Carbine I dont know how much the short barrel cripples it. Id love to know how it performs against soft and hard armor with the shorter barrel. Back in the 80s/90s Safariland released a special hardplate specifically for 30 Carbine

I remember. (I was working as a Security Officer/Agent periodically during this time).

The 10mm peaks at about 10 inches.

The 10mm Auto is highly sensitive to barrel length, with muzzle velocity scaling an average of 20 to 25 fps per inch up to 6-8 inches. Full-power loads peak in effectiveness around 10 inches, while diminished "FBI loads" (similar to a .40 S&W) see less dramatic shifts.

For standard full-power 10mm loads (e.g., 180-grain projectile), typical velocities look like this:
  • 3.5" Barrel: ~ 1,150 fps (528 ft-lbs)
  • 4.5" Barrel: ~ 1,200 fps (575 ft-lbs)
  • 5.0" Barrel: ~ 1,250 fps (625 ft-lbs)
  • 6.0" Barrel: ~ 1,300 fps (675 ft-lbs)
  • 10.0" Barrel: ~ 1,400 fps (783 ft-lbs)
Velocity gains flatten out significantly beyond 10-12 inches.

Pay $400 plus extra for UGLY. Definite NO!
For near $2k I'll find a nice WWII carbine.
Now if someone wants to give me this wonderful magnificent specimen I'll be thrilled and greatly appreciative. Then find an actual barrel and make an actual M1 carbine of it. And convert the oversize drinking straw to .30 carbine ammo. :)

IMHO, either a Vector, MP-10, or Thompson (M1 submachine gun) would be some of the best candidates for a 10mm Auto subgun. It should definitely sport a Cutts compensator.
Capt'n Have you ever humped a Thompson? I ask because while they are cool, they are friggin' HEAVY. Waaaay heavier and bigger than an Advisor Carbine.

We had one as a rental gun and they are a chonk! As is one of my favorite subguns the Suomi. I got to shoot another agency's MP-5 in 10mm and thought that would be a wonderful gun to own -very controllable. Our gunsmith rebarreled his Swedish K to .40 and once he opened up the lips of a couple magazines it ran perfectly.
