Not just for left handed shooters. If a RH shooter gets injured and needs to fire with their left hand, wouldn’t it be critical that they can put the pistol on and off safe without fumbling?

There are pistol designs on the market that have fully ambi controls. That’s not necessary. Most RH controls can be worked around. But not the safety on a single action design. It’s critical that a shooter can easily be able to control if a pistol is on or off safe.

If they are going to “update” the safety on the SA-35, then they need to make it useable by either hand. Massive flaw in an excellent design.

SA would have to follow and pay big $$ to meet the CA rules & requirements for either version of the SA-35 to be available in CA.

To get a handgun on the California roster of Certified Handguns, a manufacturer must submit samples to a California-certified laboratory for rigorous safety, firing, and drop testing.

The handgun must incorporate specific features like a chamber load indicator and magazine disconnect, and for semi-automatics, microstamping technology. The manufacturer must also pay required fees and maintain compliance to avoid removal.

Steps for Manufacturer Certification:
  • Safety Testing: The handgun must pass testing (firing, drop, and safety mechanisms) by an independent, California-certified laboratory.
  • Feature Requirements: The pistol must have a magazine disconnect mechanism and a chamber load indicator.
  • Microstamping: For new semi-automatic pistol models, the gun must imprint a unique identifier (microstamp) on each fired cartridge case.
  • Roster Listing Fee: Manufacturers must submit the handgun for certification and pay the required fees to the CA Department of Justice (DOJ).
  • Maintenance: The manufacturer must continue to meet state safety standards, as the DOJ may retest up to 5% of listed handguns annually.
If a handgun is not on the roster, it generally cannot be sold by dealers in California.

SA has done that for some of their product line, and likely would have to modify the existing SA-35 to come up with two CA-versions of the SA-35.

I just bought one. a week old. perfect gun. steel and walnut the way a gun should be. The 9mm is basically free to shoot so no reloading problelms. ONE THING the magazine reloaders do not work with this. I tried a couple and no go ($40) I won't mention name because they are nice enought to refund the price.
I've ordered a Makershot LDDSS New....made especially for the Springfield High Power, as they call it. the sa 35.
this should work becasue the otheres did not fit the mag. too loose, More to come when it and the two new mags arrive. 4 inch groups or less, at 50 feet

Springfield leads the way in great ideas, but ends up juuuust short of the finish line. This gun with an available left-hand safety mod or ambi, a smooth matte finish like they used to put on the 1911 10mm Rangemaster, and an orange/integral tritium front sight and it is perfect. A lightweight framed version would also be welcomed. Also, a quick plug for the new Saint Victor PDW......nice work!

BTW, while the XDm 5.25 is discontinued Springfield offers an separate 5.28" extended threaded barrel that fits the XDM-E 4.5 so one can thread a compensator on to it if one wants a compensator.

Great point on that 5.28" threaded barrel for the XD-M Elite 4.5. I can't use it while in CT., however I keep it where I need it at our Montana digs.. along with a couple of 16 rnd. mags. Every bit of muzzle energy you can get counts when it comes to mega fauna.

Frequently l am on the side of heavy iron .

But in this instance , the appeal is the Hi Power itself , despite the caliber .
 
Looks like I'm changing my find on getting a SA-35 "Compact" as a Commander-type companion to my two full-sized "FN/Browning" Hi-Powers.

While initially attractive I've concluded the "Compact" is just a easy-peaze chop job on the slide compared to the full-length SA-35 slide, and will go for a real "FM 3.88" inch look-alike with the Girsan MCP35 Pi Match with some more attractive features, and better price than what's expected for the currently unobtainable SA-35 Compact.

It will still need some upgrades but those will be easy.
