First Look: SAINT Victor 5.5″ PDW 9mm

The original question remains: why doesn't SA use a standard pattern mags in all their guns where geometry permits? Even creating/using a pattern of their own would be better for them and the consumer.
Because it would be a proprietary design and have limited sales potential only to those interested in SA firearms

Lets say that I focus on tactical considerations.

WELL yes your can carry more ammo but SMGs and their semi cousins are typically smaller lighter and offer a lot less blast in shorter barrels. They also are balletically suitable for most urban and suburban distances

I would suggest that most SMGs (real SMGs) used in Executive Protection details are fired in semi, at least that was MY experience

How you carry it is of course up to you. For point of history the Secret Service carried their UZI in a Samsonite brief case in you look at the pics, the case in open on the ground (to fit the gun in the brief case they had to shorten the barrel an inch or so)

Im suggesting that the shorter guns/barrels ARE as you say more maneuverable, especially in confined spaces (homes, cars)

IF I had to carry a PDW that was select fire, I'd have no problem with one in 5.7x28.
On THIS my friend we agree

Most SMGs are not light. I mean BARs and M-60s (not SMGs) were 25 lbs. An UZI is heavy, about 9lbs loaded.A S&W M76 SMG is about the same. An old Thompson M1A1 is a beast at 11 lbs. Where's the light weight? 😁 FYI, my CMMG Mk9 with its heavy 8-in barrel, loaded with a Colt 32 rounder is easily 9 lbs. But it is balanced and very maneuverable. Just sayin'.

The best Colt sticks IMHO are made by ASC. I have a dozen or so in 20- and 32-round capacity and the run perfectly
.
I have a couple ASCs and they have had a couple failures to feed in my 6951 and 16" Saint Victor. I also have a couple DuraMags, they have performed well so far from what I remember. Metalform has been my most reliable.

Hmmmm. Well, are you still happy with the performance of their Colt stick mags? I assume the action of a weapon might come into play for FTFs. Most of what I have fired are quality FMJ NATO-spec ammo. Few hollow points. IMHO I'd rather see as close to 100% reliability as possible in a PDW. Handgun ammo runs the gamut, but no junk or "target" stuff. I shoot only what I carry.

Are you talking about old Pistol Pete? lol

Yes, 100% pleased with Metalform. Metalform makes the OEM mags for Colt, Springfield Armory, also Brownell's and PSA. Harrington & Richardson use ASC and they said they found good reliability with them. Comparing the ASC and DuraMag side by side they are exactly identical except their followers are different, I suspect there are some ties between the two companies or they purchase the bodies from same supplier and add their own followers (IDK???).

When I first bought y CMMG Mk9, I bought three mags from Brownell's. Talk about FTFs, OMG. None of the 3 worked consistently... well, they failed consistently. I told Brownell's and they took 'em back. (And I have bought a lotta products from Brownell's; great outfit, IMHO.) Called CMMG and asked for a recommendation. They pointed me to ASC, and I have never looked back. I took a quick look and I have about 15 of their Colt-style stick mags.

As a man once said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Good to know others have success with their choices, too! :-)

Some mfrs can prefer a certain brand of mags. Between these three all their followers are different.

They may prefer certain brands of mags, but I'm assuming testing has proven which work best and which don't. Imagine having customers complain about your firearm when the issue is lack of QA for the best mags? :-)

True. Cost is also a determining factor for the firearm manufacturer, Metalform is higher in price than ASC and DuraMag.
