FN Reflex/EPS Carry at the Range - 17 Mar 26

Though it’s not green, I took the Reflex MRD with its newly mounted EPS Carry to the range yesterday. Fortunately, the dot was green, so no pinches from slide or trigger!

First target (two bullseye, top first) was pretty much zeroing at 7yds with lots of WAG adjustments to the EPS to finally get something I liked. One of these days I really need to do the math so I can make one or two adjustments instead of 6-7. I’m not 100% positive (broke my calipers) but I think front sight is off a bit - not surprising on a $500 mass produced gun. I’ll eventually get new calipers and check it and have a sight pusher so I can correct it, if necessary.

After getting zeroed, I shot back to back Tactical Dude drills, first one with Winchester 124g FMJ NATO and second one with Federal 124g HST. I even did the 15 yd 5 round slow fires one each with the whopping 3.3” barrel. It was a total of 234 rounds with all three targets and I now have a total of 334 rounds through it with zero malfunctions, so it passes my carry qualification requirements.

After I shot first Tactical Dude drill, I used the rest of my FMJ ammo to eliminate his kidneys to get down to just my JHP for the final drill. I only posted the one target for the second drill.

On a side note, I bought an IWB/AIWB kydex holster for it, set to for AIWB. It is a very short gun so doesn’t carry very well for me AIWB as the holster rides too high for me and leans out at the top. I may change it to wear IWB @ 4:30 or so and see how that goes. But I also went ahead and ordered an OWB that should work just fine as small as the gun is.

Hi,

The Tactical Dude abides, with big raggedy holes in him, his heart, his kidneys. Really nice shooting. I can't shoot for beans with anything less than a 4" barrel. Good on you! Maybe it's a mental block for me. Then again, maybe I'm just mental. I've never tried a ~3.5" barrel with an optic. It probably wouldn't help anyway. It seems you've also begun the holster search. It might take a few tries before you find one that works. Best of luck.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

My Reflex has 1200+ through it, with zero function issues to date. When new I cleaned it then ran 500 through it (various mag’s and bullet weights) over several range sessions without cleaning (just to see if it could do it). Rang great. Cleaned it and carried it a lot since (gets cleaned after every range session). The ONLY issue I’ve ever had occurred last week when I was pocket carrying it (in a holster of course) and somehow the mag release got pushed, causing the mag to not be engaged when the pistol was taken from the pocket. Dunno if that was a fluke or a new issue with the release but I’m watching it closely for now.

If you haven’t, check holster too. See if magazine release is covered or, if not, does it push against your leg in some way when you sit/get up. Heck, even if it is covered, given the right amount of pressure, could still force a release.

Almost forgot, I just ordered a threaded barrel for mine as I had aspirations of adding a small suppressor for home defense use. Then I learned about needing a Nielsen device and piston to offset delay during firing and not sure I want all that extra weight though I’m sure I could overcome it with practice. But then I figured even if I don’t use a suppressor, the extra barrel length can only help me be more accurate!

Piston is required for all suppressors on traditional semi auto pistols. The weight is super small. Dont worry about a pistol/devixe weight in a 9mm pistol suppressor. Buy one and bang away. You wont notice it with or without its so minor.

Not to throw my thread too far off topic (still FN question), should I decide to order a 9mm pistol suppressor for a threaded barrel, will the additional device (Nielsen/piston) allow for direct mounting on threads? When researching for my Lithium, OCL referred to a “Hub” compatible suppressor, so wasn’t sure if it is for threaded barrel mounting.

Scratch that above question I asked. I’ve done enough reading this afternoon that if I decide I want one, I will purchase a second suppressor for pistols and not have to mess with installing and removing pistons into a suppressor whenever I want to move between fixed barrel rifle/pcc and tilt barrel pistols.

That is the way to go. While switching between a piston to quick detach for rifle etc is easy, it is a switching of parts. Couple min job when you do it. Not hard, but if one can afford a dedicated pistols suppressor set up with piston , that is way less hassle
