Forced Reset Trigger for an AR-15

Model 457

Master Class
I'm thinking about buying a forced reset trigger for my AR. There is so much information out there, and so many different manufacturers, I went into sensory overload. Have any of you bought or played with one?

1) Are they worthwhile and do they truly provide much benefit?
2) Pitfalls to watch out for.
3) Best brand / model.
4) Once installed, can you go back to the original trigger?

Thank you for your time, consideration, and input.

I think @Belt Fed has about 30 of them.

I have two of them. there are no benefits unless you like to go fast. they are faster and easier to use than a binary. a little awkward getting used to the switch since it is a push type. some guns have to be modified to make them work. some will drop in without any mods. my poverty pony had to have some material taken out to make it work. you can always put the original back in if you don't like it. BUT, you will not take it out. instead you will burn up a lot of ammo. lol

I don't even know what brand mine is. it came in a small bag. probably an aftermarket of the originals. but both run like a champ. They are pretty easy to make go full auto. my advice is if you have never built a lower have a gunsmith install it. like i said some are easy and some not. matching a buffer and spring to one takes a little know how. now binarys are an easy install and pretty much work with every gun. some you may have to use the original hammer and not the one supplies and that all has to do if everything is drilled to mill spec and not off a tiny bit.

The FRT's are fun to play with, especially if you never had or shot a full auto before. they are more controllable ina PCC than a 5.56. Matter of fact next time i go to the range i plan on making a video of it in action. it's fast as my M-16. now they do have a semi position so it's not just full all the time. Pic is shown in semi auto mode. there is a red spot on it on the other side.

there are 2 different types of forced resets

binary that let you fire when pulled and released and there's the tac-con's that don't operate that way when released. i have the echo2's that are frt's that are binary and the tac-con 3mr (and another but don't remember the numbers/letters on it) that make it more of a 2-stage w/o a 1st stage pull hence the forced reset doing that part.

I owned 2 NFA guns and a had another with a binary trigger.
Have shot one with a FRT trigger.

1) Are they worthwhile and do they truly provide much benefit?
They were more fun when ammo was cheaper. The one I feel is best is the NFA guns.

2) Pitfalls to watch out for.
1. Who knows what BATFE will try next time. I'm sure the next D-POTUS will be psycho crazy
2. My binary was finicky, had issues when first installed, would fire on safe. Thankfully the company is a little over a hour away and they took care of it
3. Needing lots of ammo.

3) Best brand / model.
NFA guns that shoot FA beat both, but cost is a issue thanks to Reagan's ban on new manufacturer. I bought both of mine before that happened in 1986.
Between the Binary and FRT ... I liked the FRT better.

4) Once installed, can you go back to the original trigger?
Easily, just replace the trigger and safety (needed, with a binary) with the original .... Well, not on the FA one, but you still can use the single shot

Thank you all for the information and tips. A lifetime ago I had a department issued AC-556. Single, 3 shot burst, and full rock & roll. Our department didn't like the term "SWAT" so we were the FLEX team. I've been toying with the idea of a FRT but couldn't find decent information without going into overload. I just needed clear, concise information.

I have friends with the right licenses and full auto. It's fun, but I don't really want one. I would like 3 rd. burst though. That could be useful.

the 2 echo2 binary frt triggers i have are installed on 2 lowers of different sizes (ar15, ar10) for a fast swap of cartridge changes and fun. i currently have 1 of those lowers on a cmmg 5.7x28 that runs perfect and will use it on the 9mm cmmg when it arrives. if i plan on using the same trigger on a 10mm or 45acp from cmmg, i'll need a different lower as they don't have the ar15 lower compatibility use of ar15 mag conversions. i'll need a pistol mag lower for those (i think they're for glock)? i haven't tried any on the ar10's yet. i only have the fostech and never owned any franklin armory triggers.

Yeah, I'm not big on spray & pray. This was back in the late 80s or early 90s. That was when "the cops are out-gunned" craze was at its peak. Our department commander didn't want to be out gunned so he got the AC 556s for us. Aside from fooling around at the range, I don't think anyone had their selector switch set for full auto.

Finding and funding a "transferable" one is the hardest part. When I bought mine they were less than 2k each. Sold them due to having Open Heart surgery and didn't want the wife possibly needing to deal with that crap. Made a 40k+ profit.

The NFA paperwork isn't the hard part.
