Nice article but "the MAT-49 was built around a rudimentary blowback operation firing from an open bolt. That eliminated the need for an extractor" The gun has an extractor (extracting in a hurry a dud would be an issue without it) and its open bolt blowback operation is not really rudimentary, the bolt and the trunnion enveloping the cartridge before it could fire is a sophistication not seen in other submachine guns and the safety mechanism is very effective.
