I just got my first Springfield pistol and it has worked extremely well :). Would anybody know what is the size of the front sight in 1911 Loaded 45 ACP and where could I get one? My eyesight isn't what it used to be, need more colour to the front sight. Thanks for any possible help.

#1 - Call SA Customer Service

For info sake SA uses an unauthorized copy of the well-known Novak-type site according to Novak.

So don't assume that even though the SA 1911 Loaded looks like it uses Novak sites that the site heights that Novak recommend s would be the same.

But according to this from Novak...

Standard Sight Height Recommendations For Government and Commander Length Models:

With Novak Sights:
Front - .180" Blade / Rear - Fixed LoMount Carry
Front - .180" Blade / Rear - LMA LoMount Adjustable Carry
Front - .225" Blade / Rear - ALM Adjustable
**ALM sight has to have forward relief cut on the rear Novak dovetail**

Without Novak Sights:
Front - Existing Sight on Slide / Rear - DCR Carry
**This is only for slides with the taller 70 series type sights. These type of slides can be machined for the LoMount Sights if desired.**

You, or a gunsmith would have to measure the sight height on your existing front sight, if you can't get the info from SA.

Thank you so much for your friendly advice and effort! This seems to be a more complicated issue than I originally thought. I will try to sort this out somehow. I live in Finland which makes this particular problem slightly more difficult ;).

No problem. (y)

I'm sure a good gunsmith there can figure it out for you.

Finland is one of the top three countries I'd like to visit.

Would like to go to the Varusteleka store in person, after several mail orders.

Wish I has a Rk62 or Rk92 here.

Watch out for the Bear next door.

Thanks Talyn for your kind words. Varusteleka is awesome :). Funny that you mentioned it, I actually just visited the store today. Wanted to show the store to my 5 year old son and got something for myself as well. Finnish army reservist love the place and off course some other people as well :). Thanks for your support, I really appreciate a lot that you think of the north as well!

I've studied the Winter & Continuation Wars extensively, and love my puukko knife collection. I carry my Gen1 M95 Peltonen Ranger regularly when in the field.

Hopefully, some day Finland will regain the lands ceded to the "Bear" during WW2.

And naturally I have to appreciate the fact that you know both RK62 and and RK92!. Oh my god, that is awesome. I have actually used but both but I competed with good success with RK92 rifle during my service. Extremely accurate for a military rifle.

I find that extremely exceptional but at the same time appriacitive. Amazing that you taken the time to learn. That said, I have done the same to know about the US military history! I know a lot. I just appreciate military history and highly appreciate the efforts and sacrifice soldiers have made.

From what I've heard is that Finland & Sweden are moving to have a new common infantry rifle, and perhaps other infantry weapons.

If so I hope the Rk62s and Rk92s are retained for potential NDTA use and training.

With the conflict in Ukraine seems prudent to keep a reserve of useful weapons.

I actually have the very first gen Peltonen " Sissipuukko". In case you are interested I would be happy to send pics. It is slightly different. I tried to use it during my service 1994-1995, but it was too loose.

Since Finland's entry into NATO it appears our military forces are cooperating already, and the USA is lucky to have the FDF experience in the near-Arctic/Arctic environments to learn from.

I'd enjoy seeing a pic of yours. I understand the latest version they changed the grind of the blade vs. the Gen1s.

I have both the original leather sheath as well as the later plastic one which holds the M95 better.

But would like to get one of the new cameoed Kydex drop-leg sheath's that Lamnia offers.

I am at my summer cottage as Finns usually are during summer :). I dont have the knife with me, but I will find it for you since it is the first edition to my knowledge.
