George Clooney, wife Amal and Children Granted French Citizenship

That's nice. But note that it "wasn't immediately clear whether Clooney retained his American citizenship." As I said before, pick a lane and commit. There should be no dual citizenship, otherwise it's just posturing and scheming for a better tax deal. I also thought it was ironic that he is trying to escape the LA culture, something he helped to create. So long, cretin.

I have zero problems with people having dual citizenship, but, if one does and speaks negatively of the US while overseas, they should be considered to be a foreign agent at that point and not allowed through US customs. Though I would say the case needs to be extreme to not violate the First Amendment.

I have several problems with it. Legal differences, taxes, and most of all allegiances. People shouldn't have the luxury of running home to momma when obligations don't suit them.

You are aware that renouncing one’s foreign citizenship means nothing, right? That is how Chinese agents have been granted high level clearances, because they “renounced their Chinese citizenship” and ended up going to prison when they were caught feeding information back to China. Most other countries consider one to be a citizen by birth or blood, and renouncing citizenship doesn’t mean anything. They’d simply just be able to reapply and it would be granted, if they even revoked their citizenship in the first place (I think the requirement is sending a letter and it isn’t even honored for some countries, but for th)e US, that is the simple requirement. Fun fact, if you’re of Italian descent, you can just request Italian citizenship and it would be granted if you can prove it. Think Ireland is the same too. The only country where it really matters if you renounce citizenship really is the US. There are also cases where people who immigrated here are more American in spirit than the average Californian, but they still retain their original citizenship, since it makes traveling home to family easier.

Well, I guess I'm just old fashioned. I am only 2d generation American. On both my Dad's and Mom sides all were, as you say, more American in spirit, than many native born. All became citizens, although my maternal grandmother was delayed for several years. In fact one of her six children was born overseas. However, I am happy you informed me that the only place renouncing citizenship matters is the US. Sad though that renouncing foreign citizenship means nothing and gives some rationale for being bad actors in the US. Maybe that's why we're in the shape we're in. No standards.

Admit it...Rosie leaving has Trump on the ropes! If Loony, er, Clooney leaves too I betcha Trump will resign the Presidency. Said no sane person ever. Hey, think we could start a movement for liberals to donate all the money from their 401K that they gained since Trump was in office to offset the migrant costs to the Country? No? Me neither.
