Get to Know Spyderco in Three Knives

Nice article, i like thd newer military model with the compression lock and 4 position clip.

I have had Spyderco knives and always been satisfied with them. The large opening hole is very nice for opening and closing one handed with the right lock setup. I do wish I had gotten I be of thier Manix knives with the homage to Blackie Collins Bolt Action my favorite ever knife lock.

I do see a couple of thier models with the compression lock with a 4 position clip so that it can be setup in tip-down carry manner.

This one looks interesting with a nice flat ground blade my favorite.

I have been using and carrying Para 2’s and a Para 3 with the compression lock for awhile. I consider them some of the best EDC knives out there.
I’ve had Axis, Liner, Bolt Action, and Button locks fail on me. When that happens I get rid of the knife. No Second Chance!
The Compression and Frame locks are, in my opinion, the safest and most reliable.
I’ve used Spyderco knives ever since they came out with the Clip-it models.
If you’re a Military or First Responder you can qualify for their discount program and save BIG TIME! Basically I bought two Para 2’s for the price of one 👍

Frame and liner locks are no good for me, they are prone to unlocking in left hand use. The natural compression of the left hand presses inward on the lock and can, and does, unlock the blade. I have had it happen on some nice liners.

This is why Lake and Walker created the LAWKS that CRKT uses a lot.

I am also fussy about how the blade orientation in the pocket, I need tip down not up. Have had knives open in the pocket with tip up.

Some knife manufacturers do offer Left handed versions.

Thank you, I have seen a few of them but really, I think there are too many decent locks out there which are easily ambidextrous, and safe to use either hand.

I used the Blackie Collins Bolt Action for probably 30 years in either the Gerber or Myerco variation. Still use one in my GHB and outdoor work pants. Even though designed for right hand it was very easy to unlock left handed too. Axis, ball bearing and back action locks, rocker locks, other locks are easy to use one hand too

This is a good note. Twice I have had one of their 'tip up' shorties, come open as I put my hand in my pocket... this is no bueno.

I look over the selection of Spyderco knives every once in awhile. I've never seen one I wanted to buy.

I've also never heard of an Axis lock failing. I have quite a few of them. None have ever failed.

I have on both the mini and regular size Adamas folders. Both were brand new in box.
Never again will I own a Axis lock

I carried a Spyderco police for years on the street. I never needed to cut anyone out of a burning car or cut the ropes off a hostage or stab an attacking bear. But it was really handy for opening boxes of road flares, cutting crime scene tape, opening bandage packages, or opening bags of mixed nuts and Fritios. Then I lost it.

The Fritios or the knife 🤔
