Glock 17 Through The Generations

Hi,

This came in my email today. It's probably old hat to a lot of you but I found it interesting. This article and video talk about everything you never wanted to know, and more, concerning all the generations of the G17.

How can something go through so many changes and still be the same? Actually, the Gen 6 is starting to be pretty cool. 😎 And I thought the OG Tupperware packaging was cute. Anyway, for those of you who are curious, I hope you enjoy the Glock generations on parade. ;)

Full disclosure: I own a G17L (Gen 5) that I really enjoy shooting. That 6" barrel is ridiculous. It lets even me hit the target, usually.

I don’t get the hate on Glocks. I mean I get if something else feels better I prefer M&Ps but when I commit and carry Glock I become pretty proficient (earns a 4 star rating and coin from Glocl Operator School

Glock has made subtle changes as the market wanted (to a certain point) they have always had some of the best factory support with classes, training and accessories

I like Glock. Now here is a long winded, personal story as to why.

I drank the Glock kool-aid back in 2010 when I had a Gen 3 Glock 23 forced upon me. I wasn't allowed to carry or even practice with my duty gun unless it was on duty. So I bought a Gen 4. A Gen 4 G27 soon followed. A Gen 3 G26 practically fell in my lap shortly after this.

Along the way I also picked up an OG Kel-Tec Sub-2000, Glock style in .40. Later replaced with a Ruger PC Carbine, Glock style in .40. This was the closest thing to a duty rifle we were allowed.

I still have these. When I moved to take a detective job out of state I was issued a Glock (G45 first, currently a Gen 5 G19). However, I was not required to carry it as a detective. My arrogant, micro-managing, currently former Assistant Chief did say, "It has to be Glock and it has to be 9mm." This from the same guy who derided my State agency who had the same rule (in .40). So I picked up a 43 and two 43x pistols; I sold the 43 and the MOS 43x.

The Assistant Chief is no longer Assistant Chief so I carry a CZ P-07, or a FN Reflex MRD. I'm thinking about carrying my SA-35 (if I can find a set of sights I like). But I still have my Glocks. I even picked up Gen 3 G21 currently masquerading as a G20.

I like my Glocks. If I had to carry one I would be fine with it. Great guns.
