Been a week since last range trip so figured I’d head that way and see how I shot my latest pick up (Ronin EMP 4) vs one of my favorite SAs - TRP Commander in .45. Irons on the EMP, Trijicon on the TRP.
Arrived at range five minutes after opening and….yep….busy already. After I checked in, one lane was left (that filled right after I set up). One side still down for remodeling, but new floor was going in today
.!
Since it was busy and I knew I’d want to get in and out, decided to forego Vital Dude and GO FISHING!
Shot these two fellas…with each it was 50 rounds of Sellier & Bellot FMJ followed by 50 rounds of Federal Syntech Range TSJ. Did better than I thought I would with irons, then moving to .45 w/optic provided an interesting change of pace. All shots were off hand, 2H standing. I encountered no malfunctions with either gun. Springfield FTW!
Up first was the Ronin EMP 9mm with irons. Figured it would be better to shoot irons first before my eyes got tired. Set up the target at 7 yards and put 50 rounds into the big left shark - that was my plan anyway. Oops. Poor baby seal. Then I shot 30 at the bottom right shark - sigh. To finish up the 9mm, moved target to 3 yards and did some dental work on the small right shark.
For the .45 w/optic, I just used an identical target and shot the same way. At 7 yds, 50 in left shark, 30 in bottom right shark, then dental work at 3 yards for smiley. Must have sneezed when I threw that one lower left during first 50…yeah, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Was kind of fun fishing instead of “dearming” my target! 200 rounds in about 30 minutes and left with sweat running down my face (amongst other places)! Texas FTW!
