Hope everyone stays safe and enjoys this scared time. Let's not forget what it's about, it's been hijacked by civil servants of all kinds and that is not the origin nor the purpose.
The Civil War (1861–1865) caused more American deaths than any other conflict in U.S. history — over 600,000.Communities were overwhelmed with graves, and people across the country began holding springtime ceremonies to honor the fallen.
These early events were called:
- Decoration Day
- Remembrance Day
- Grave‑decoration ceremonies
People decorated soldiers’ graves with flowers, flags, and wreaths.
General John A. Logan, leader of a Union veterans’ organization, issued an order designating
May 30, 1868 as a day to decorate the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country which was the beginning of Memorial Day. After WWI, the meaning expanded to honor
all Americans who died in any war.
The
Uniform Monday Holiday Act established:
- The name Memorial Day
- The date as the last Monday in May
- A national day of remembrance for all fallen U.S. military personnel
So, while we remember family, the neighbor, your ex-wife, your old girl friend and the Milk Man, please keep in mind why we are still Americans,
for the U.S. Military that made the ultimate sacrifice.
