He Was Unarmed During A Mass Shooting Because Of A Gun Free Zone

The first question in "Gun Free Zones" is if there is a metal detector. Failing a metal detector, next is what the penalty is for violating the policy. Assuming mere possession is NOT a criminal/arrestable offense, then theres a choice to ignore the sign. In some places ignoring the sign AND GETTING CAUGHT, only means you will be asked to leave and refusing to leave will only be a trespassing offense.

I would also suggest that not every NO Gun posting is the same. Tell me which of these means you cant have a gun: "No illegal drugs and guns" VERSUS "No illegal drugs, and guns" Theres a difference if you paid attention in English class. If the business didnt pay attention either its not your fault; but admittedly you would need a judge who appreciates the fine points of English to make the distinction.

Ultimately each one of us must weigh to cost of getting caught with a gun VS the cost of getting caught without a gun

Each state has their own rules and laws. If you don't know your own state's rules and regulations, you deserve what you get. But federal is federal.
Key federal penalties and regulations include:
  • Gun-Free School Zones Act (18 U.S.C. § 922(q)): Knowingly possessing a firearm in a school zone (within 1,000 feet of school grounds) can lead to a fine of up to $5000

    and imprisonment for up to 5 years.
  • Federal Facilities (18 U.S.C. § 930): Knowingly possessing a firearm in a federal building, such as a post office or federal courthouse, can result in fines and imprisonment for up to 1 year for general facilities, or up to 2 years for court facilities.
  • Consecutive Sentencing: If the violation occurs in a school zone and is accompanied by another federal offense, the sentence for the school zone violation must be served consecutively (in addition to) rather than concurrently with other sentences.

How'bout changing "gun free Helpless" to alternative weapons. The last time I was in London (crazy gun free), I carried 20 one pound coins in a leather cigar shaped tube with a leather thong, think of it as a sap; but with a justifiable explanation. When we were visiting St Pauls, the coins set off the metal detector. I played the clueless American when the officer had me empty my pockets. He knew exactly what the leather case was for and smiled but let me pass. I also carried an "unbreakable umbrella". Its still an umbrella but it has other useful potentials.

I got stopped by TSA because I had a "fighting pen". The young TSA agent was concerned that it could be a weapon. I ended up gifting it to him as from one cop to another. He wasnt at all concerned about the titanium chop sticks, the two rolls of quarters, the cable lock, bandanna, and charging cords in my pockets. NONE of those would equal a gun face to face but I felt safer knowing that I was eating with titanium chopsticks with quarters in a leather pouch.

Your never unarmed if you dont want to be

OK how'bout concealed means CONCEALED. Thats why I mentioned the metal detector. IF no metal detector, how do they know you are carrying?

Following an active shooter, where an armed citizen in a gun free zone killed the terrorists do you really expect to be prosecuted? Convicted? Imagine if one of the teachers or staff or kids at the Uvalde school had a gun without permission and killed the shooter.....

Yes and thank you. Its the IF CAUGHT part that Im suggesting isnt necessarily a certain AND if caught after saving the day the results may not be as horrific as we've been induced to believe.

Again I point out that IF a teacher or janitor at Uvalde had a gun and killed the shooter, do you really think she would have been prosecuted or even fired?

If that same teacher had for years carried a gun to school how would anyone have known. Short of a metal detector Concealed means CONCEALED

Several different camps here at " The Armory Life" forum. You have your Current Operator to the Ex Secret service super hero, to current, as well as retired LEO'S " no disresprct intended to any of the fore mentioned. Hard to apply most of the shared advise to everyday life as an everyday citizen with a CCW and a will to survive among today' social climate.
I enjoy many public events, but I do not decide where I go based on whether or not my EDC is permitted to attend.
That is where the "concealed" part comes into play. Risk v Reward I guess. Common sense is your friend.

Wow, that was a long interview. The useful content could've been stated in less than 20 minutes, but that's just podcasters for you. I like Colion Nior but he can ramble sometimes.

When I see metal detectors I do not carry. You might remember the Eli Dicken incident at the Greenwood Mall in Indiana. The mall had "no guns allowed" signs at the entrances. He faced no legal ramifications for saving the day.

But, yes, other "good guy with a gun" situations have led to the "hero" having charges brought. It depends on the DA and politics. It's interesting, in a sad way, that you can read the same story at CNN or New York Times and while they say Mr. Dicken did a good thing, they always have a "yeah, but" part of the story that betrays their anti-2A bias.
