Relying on simulations, paper analysis, etc. is not the same thing as performance in the La. Maneuvers. What about performance at the NTC, or for Marines at 29 Palms? Or don't we do that kind of thing anymore?
I do agree however that we have way too many four stars hanging around and the commensurate number of three and two stars, etc. Cut those numbers and this means the O-6s will be focused on their performance to get promoted.

Grew up in Maine. Sat on a 113 in the ROK and watched a warm coke freeze sitting next to me while smoking a cigarette. Have had frost bite and hypothermia. NTC in the summer was the coldest I ever felt. 120 degrees drop to 60 in the span of an hour..... that's not right, normal and bleeping cold.

30 day rotation mid June-mid July. Everyday 115+, one day it was 126 and I said this can't get any hotter. The next day was 130, after that I kept my mouth shut. After a couple weeks of that daytime heat my body became somewhat acclimated and at night it would be 85 degrees and I would get out my poncho liner.

One time when I was a two-striper, the soft serve ice cream dispenser broke. Man, was that a bad day! Talk about weeping and gnashing of teeth!
