and the news

It will be a bit before anything official comes out, but based on witness accounts and the video, my guess is the main transmission blew up, causing the main rotor to depart the aircraft, chopping the tail boom off in the process. Condolences to all the families involved
should that be what happened, are there any hours of service "limits" for that unit to be pulled out and replaced with new?

from another article i read, some choppers have many hours of service.

All helicopters have service limits on most parts and components. Some are overhaul limits, and some are replacement limits. Of course, some things fail within those limits. It is rare, but it happens. We will see what the NTSB finds out in this case.

Some of these "Tourist" helicopter companies (also in Hawaii, Grand Canyon, etc.) cut maintance corners & these incidents seem to be more common than they should be.

I've heard of issues with some people getting counterfeit parts...not even a wild-#&*-geuss. Just a thought from deep in my RAM.
LOTS of them
but the pics look like the whole rotor head departed and then took off part of tail fuselage
thats a no win even at 100 feet
lets see what they release
prayers for the families of the lost loved ones
